Manipulating Objects - Hands, Grav Gun?

Hi Folks,

I seem to spend a lot of time trying to re-orient things that I'm
attempting to stack up. For example, once a steel drum flops over it's
a PITA to get it back upright. I wind up trying to put its edge on top
of something, letting go, and hope it doesn't flop sideways after it
lands. Likewise for tall crates.

I noticed that the turret gun tripod things will almost always flip
upright when I pick them up. That's handy. Just about everything else
is a lot of fuss.

Am I missing an easy way to re-orient things that I've picked up?

Thanks.

Exact same problem here. Would have been nice if there were a way to turn
the objects while you hold them. Would make things a lot easier, and there's
no real reason why you can't. Unless we're both missing something?

Na, you're right. There is no easy way to rotate the object in the Grav
Gun's grasp. A common technique has been to shoot the object in the air
and grab it the moment it orientates itself in the way you want.

One thing I like about Garry's Mod is that you can rotate the object in
the GG very easily by pressing the use key (I think) and moving the
mouse around. It'd be nice if Valve incorporate that behavior into HL2.

Read OTHER people's posts next time. I just said:

*Garry's Mod.*

Agreed. I had pondered posting this same question many times but didn't.
It's the only weak point of the game, at least for me.
