I bought a 7550a plotter on eBay and foolishly assumed I could easily
download the user's manual from HP but they've stopped supporting this
unit. Their web page has almost no information about the 7550a.

The unit powers up fine and successfully plots its self-generated test page
but when I try to print from my PC I get a "printer is out of paper"
message. I'm not even sure whether I should install the printer using the
"7550 Plus" or "Hewlett Packard HPGL/2 plotter" drivers built into Win2000.
I'm not sure what's wrong and I'm hoping the manual will help me.

Does anyone know where I can download or buy this manual?

Thanks....

Emilio

Hello Emilio:

While I cannot necessarily help you with your Win2000 problem, I am
somewhat knowledgable on the 7550 plotter (amateur; still learning).
I do have a manual for the 7550a.

The 7550a is an earlier model than the 7550 Plus, and has a smaller
command set than the 7550 Plus. It does not understand HPGL/2 which
is enhanced relative to the command set that the 7550a understands
(HPGL). I have left a note in the newsgroup asking about this.

I have done a little bit of code (in Visual Basic) which will
communicate with the 7550a. Perhaps these may help. Are you using
the Com port? My code assumes com1.
