Hi!

Before anything else, i have searched for information in everywhere. :)

So, the problem is: one day i was listening some music stored in my second disk (just for data) when the computer crashed. I rebooted it and found out that the Windows was offering to format Disk D:. Disk D was inaccessible. That was odd!

I checked the disk in Windows Management Disk and found that that now was two partitions in disk D, one in unformatted NTFS 14Gb and another in RAW format. The disk has a total of 76Gb aprox. It had only one partition, the whole disk!

I digged more about this problem and found out that the partition table of the disk was corrupted.

First, i tried to recover all the data i could by using several recovery programs. The program that recover most information was the Runtime GetDataBack for NTFS. All others just recover few files or they didnt recover anything.

Second, i made a clone image using Norton Ghost (it was just of 14Gb). It did not made a clone image of whole disk.

Third, i tried recover partition table using TestDisk, but with no success (used this guide, but in Windows:http://www.addictivetips.com/windows-tips/how-to-recover-lost-partitions-and-hard-disk-data-guide/)

So, after this, i endevour in repair the damaged partition table manually using Edit Disk function in Acronis Disk Director. That way i can edit the partition table in Hex mode.

I followed this guide: http://www.techrepublic.com/article/step-by-step-how-to-manually-rebuild-a-windows-xp-partition-table-with-acronis-diskeditor/

So, for what i have read, the partition table is in Absolute Sector 0 (cylinder 0, head 0, sector 1).
I have done everything ok. I just cant find the last values: Ending head, Ending sector and ending cylinder.

My hex is 00 01 01 00 07 FE FF FF 3F 00 00 00 39 B1 D4 01. I think the problem lies in this hex.

My disk information: 82 GB, Cylinder 39420, Head 16, Precomp 0, Landing 39419, Sector 255.

My hope is that i can repair the partition table and access the disk with all the original folders and files. Because using the Edit Disk, i can see that the information (folders and files) are there.

So, my questions:
1 - By repairing the partition disk, can i after access the disk with all the folders and files or do i need do anything else? Or there is no hope for me and the disk?!

2 - Can someone help to repair my partition table?

Thanks!!

Solution
I haven't used that tool.

I once had success using one of the tools in the Parted Magic distro (it's a bootable CD). I knew that the device had one NTFS partition, I set the partition table to that, and darned if all my data wasn't there! However, any write to the disk is risky and may make things worse.
