I've done a clean install of Windows 8.1 and the previous 1000 mbps speed is now only has 10/100 choices selectable. I'm using an Asus P6X58D motherboard that uses Marvell hard drive and Lan systems. This board is not listed as Win 10 compatible on Ausus website but its still a great board with a big investment from me in the a i7 CPU and 16 Gig or RAM.

Thanks for your reply Frank.
I'm afraid I'm using Marvell Yukon driver for Windows 8 that I got from the Asus (they made the motherboard) website. It installed OK with no errors but I still only have 10/100 choices for this supposed 1000 gb network outlet. Regardless of what driver I install - and I've installed a Win 7 driver as well as the update to Win 8, it has no effect on the choices windows gives me for the network. It's getting close to buying a new board,CPU and RAM I think. Pity because otherwise this is a nice PC.

try a few of these drivers and utilities before giving up:

remember to choose 88E8056 as part number first.

*so everything worked fine before reinstalling windows?

Yes Frank...
I've already got those drivers. Identical to the one on Asus' site.
This motherboard is six years old. I came with Windows 7 drivers. Supposedly 32 bit and 64 bit but when I tried to install the Win 7 drivers it returned a message that there were no 64 bit drivers on the disk. Yes... It worked fine with Win 7 in 64 bit mode and gave me the option to choose 1gig for the network. I never got 1 gig of speed from the copper network cable but now I've got fiber, I can get the speed just not select it. The issue has existed for several months. This is just the last site in a long line of sites I've asked for help on. I really hate spending a grand on a replacement with cpu and RAM because mine is not compatible with a new board when it works perfectly well except for network speed. Maybe I'll explore wireless and see if I can get the full speed my router is pulling from the Internet.

Great service indeed. Yes... I do have a 1 gig fiber local network. The PCs that were built in the last 3 years all run at full speed.

My own PC has been used every day since I built it and never missed a beat except for killing 3 hard drives! I use it to publish magazines and edit photos for printing as wallpaper. None of the i5's can handle enlarging images as fast as this system does.

I've just ordered an Asus PCE-AC56 Dual-Band Wireless AC1300 PCI-E Adapter. Hopefully this will do what Marvell drivers haven't been able to. The cost of this adapter is way cheaper than even an entry level MSI Xeon package currently on offer. It should be here by Friday, I'll let you know the results.

Well,
I've always felt hard wire (or fiber) is the best too but after fitting this Asus AC1300 wireless adapter I'm inclined to think I've hit the jackpot. We only have DSL2+ feeding my BiPAC router that is reporting 19111 Kbps from the Internet. Only a tad below the ultimate speed of that link.

The real benefit for me is not the Internet speed but the speed between computers on my localnet and the ability now to get really a fast WI FI link direct from my provider. The new wireless adapter is reporting Data rate of 144.0 Mbps. Hugely increased on what I had from the Marvell gigabit adapter. Pulling data from our sales counter PC is almost like getting it from a USB3 connected hard drive now.

The transmission is stable and I can pickup a Telstra air link that is over a kilometer away. I'm not sure what speed it will deliver but its comforting that I can have a connection for my PC by just switching networks. Sure its more costly than a hard wire card but moving my PC around won't be such a drama that I need to get a wiring specialist in before moving it. I'm aware of the risks of WI FI connections but I'm confident the keys I'm using are as secure as they can be. I'm happy now. Thanks for your help Frank.
