Max GPU length?

A while back, my uncle gave me his old computer, so i decided to see what parts were in it. I found out that the gpu in it, a gigabyte 7870, has a length of 280mm.(https://pcpartpicker.com/part/gigabyte-video-card-gvr787oc2gd)
Now, this supposedly exceeds the limit for my case, the diablotek cpa-6170 (https://pcpartpicker.com/part/diablotek-case-cpa6170), which only supports cards of up to 275mm. I took a look inside the case and it seems like it easily has another 15-20mm before the card hits the drive bays.

Do you think the number they say for the max supported gpu is wrong? would I be able to fit a 279 mm msi gtx 980 into it?

Thanks!

The easiest way to know for sure is to measure it with a tape measure. Normally the specifications do leave some room towards the end mainly because some GPUs have longer fan shrouds but I doubt you could fit a longer GPU into that case, and if you can it will only be if you force it which could possibly damage the GPU.

I would measure it for sure, but if you think you have at least another 15-20 mm, then you might be fine. You also have to remember where the PCI-e power plug is located and make sure it won't interfere with the dimensions. Most GPU's have the PCI-e power connectors come off the top of the GPU, but something to check on yours (since I don't know which MSI GTX 980 you have).

Also if you don't have a 5 1/4" drive in your drive cage, you could also remove those cages, if need be. You might have to drill out the rivets to do that, but if you don't mind doing that it could be done to give you plenty more room, if needed.

Do you mean a gpu longer than my current 280mm card or longer than the suggested 275mm? Because i havent noticed any damage to card

I find it hard to think that the case would have the wrong measurement for the GPU. Then again it is a cheap brand and I have seen them do many things including have wrong information so it is possible that the max GPU length listed for the case is incorrect.

If you currently have a 280mm GPU in the case then another of the same length should fit. Of course I would verify 100% that the card you looked up is in fact the correct one as many vendors have multiple versions.
