max heat of cpu?

Is there a generic max heat recommendation for CPUs?

I have a Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-2540M CPU @ 2.60GHz on a Lenovo X220. By querying `/sys/bus/acpi/devices/LNXTHERM\:00/thermal_zone/temp` a temperature of 95 C was reported while performing a half hour compilation job. That seems very high to me. Fan is running and working. Is this a sign that the CPU is dying, or are there countermeasures that can be taken?

Tjunction (basically the max temp) is 100C.

You can always try hitting the vents with compressed air to blow out dust since that laptop is probably older and collected some dust. You can also buy a cooling pad to help cool it down some more.
