Been hearing that Win XP will lock all apps excluding the desktop to 60hz. So even if you have the monitor refresh rate at 105, all apps other than desktop will be dropped to 60hz regardless. This could be a bummer for those with vsync on in games and painfull to the eyes. Is there a way to bust this cap or a work-around?

I thought there was a fix for this released by MS or was it not on SP1?

Failing that I am sure I read somwhere that you can get video drivers that will force it to run at higher rates.

Well Im using SP1 and do keep up with the windows updates on this machine and still issue persists.

If we're talking DX games, then you can use the DX Override to set the refresh rate higher for your games. As for OpenGL, I'm still not sure it's been fixed.

Go get the latest display driver. It helps.

Go get Nvidia Refresh Rate fix. I see you have an ATI card, but the same story. What it does it deletes your standard refresh rates, which is 60 hertz when not in destop mode. It deletes the 60, and wil take the next available slot, which is 70. And you can delete that one as well.

What to do when one has ATi?

Got a Radeon 9200 Series GPU.

As I've said, the Nvidia Refresh Rate fix fixes all systems. Even ATI. It is a problem with XP, not the card or drivers. Just do a search on google. Here's one for ATI specificly:

Takes a bit of practise and it is easy creating a permanent black screen for yourself. So be careful.

also run a search for a tiny app called reforce rate which enforces the correct refresh rates. altho remember that battlefield 1942 wont run with reforce activated
