Max safe voltage for 7970 using Afterburner

So i'm trying to get my MSI reference 7970 to 1125 core and 1575mhz on the memory through MSI Afterburner 2.2. I don't understand how so many people are getting to 1125/1575 right off the bat with no voltage increase. I'm wondering what is the max safe voltage for this card? I increased it to 1.2 volts and am not seeing any artifacts after playing Far Cry 3 for a couple hours. Should i start backing it down until i start seeing artifacts? Also how does this affect the longevity of the card?

Nevermind i'm seeing artifacts. Really no one can give me an answer? Did i just get a bad card? Anything?

1125/1575 should be super easy out of the gate with your card whether it is reference or not - without a voltage increase. I can do this with both of my 7970s in crossfire without voltage and usually its a bit different when having overclocks on CF.

Back down the mem to 1550 without your voltage increase and test again in 3dmark11.

Unless you did the hack etc your voltage increase is prolly not working correctly in the first place within AB. There are a few steps including missing .dlls that you need to have stable voltage increases in AB.

Do this

1125/1575 with 20% power.

Do not do this in afterburner but do it in CC. You will have to enable Overdrive before hand. Plus put your fan speed up to 40% and please run kombuster and 3dmark11

yeah make sure you have the 20% PowerTune setting. And MSI AB by default doesn't show true voltage... monitor your voltage with GPU-Z to see if you are actually running at 1.2 volts. As for safe voltage, I've heard of people doing 1.4 but I'm hesitant to go above 1.3 with mine... I've read in several places that you wouldn't wanna go above 1.25 for daily sustained use, but that's probably overcautious because mine has 1.256v for STOCK voltage (probably by far the highest stock voltage on any 7970)

Thanks Murder. Sorry I'm kinda new to Tom's and didn't notice the "Notifications" tab up top. I'll slowly start upping the clocks and set the voltage at 1.24-25 and see what happens.

There are many 7970 cards produced under different brands , some works on vccd 1.05 some 1.12 some more as factory defaults . I am now operatiıng @1150 mhz 1.18 Vccd ... I can run @1200 or more like 1250 at 1.2 vccd but then temp go to 65 C at full load. I play BF4 for long hours and have %18 performance , not glitches or ubnormalities ..

I use Trixx , and have a fan curve that hits 100% at 50 C

I think for long term use anything lower than 1.2 will be fine ..
