maximum acceptable temperature?

I wouldnt let that puppy run any hotter then 52 ish degrees C.

EDIT: under load that is

Your idel temps should be low 30 C to high 30 C - 40C if you overclocked.

Go to amd's website. Even though it seems high, you may be surprised to see that a temp around 70c is the hottest, safest temp. Having said that, I, and everybody else I know, and read about, like to keep them as cool as possible...... 35 - 42c............. under load....

i turned on my machine today and as soon as it went to windows, i ran the asus software that tells me the temperature of the machine and it said
46C for the cpu and 42C for the motherboard. can this be cause i currently have my case open?

then why would my cpu be at 46C right after going into windows? even though i have my case open, it shouldn't be that hot so soon.

Check vcore, dust on hsf, fan speen and reset hsf. I would run prim95 if it goes to mid 60s turn it off, 70s are where it burns up.

Man..wish I had you guys backing me up when I went to a shop looking for bigger, badder heatsink and the guy told me that my cpu running at 69C was "acceptable and quite cool" ...

hi, can you provide me with a link? i've been on their site for 30 minutes, can't find it.

try this

Ummm.. his case is in his signature:

Antec P-180

That case is suppose to be good for airflow, yet I don't understand why he's running it with the side off.

For me, if i see my CPU start to run into the 50C and above, then i start thinking about getting better thermal compound; 60C and above, a whole new cooler WITH new thermal compound. Don't even ask about how i would react if i saw a cpu hit the 70C mark...

I pretty much start grinding my teeth when I see my 2.66 northwood (stock HSF / AS5) OC to 2.9 hit 63-65C on full load - prime95

Then I see the case temp go up from 28C to 32C...

Then I turn on the ceiling fan, open a window.. 😳

I have both AMD and Intel and the limits I allow them to are no more than 60c*. At full load my AMD goes 48c* and Intel 51c* and they are both on hsf cooling.

Did you guys saw in one of the furoms about the exploding cpu test? If not then find it, it's pretty hilarious. Although everyone said it was a just a joke, but I never heard of cpu's exploding through overvoltage and heat. 😀

I guess i shold have explained. My case is open cause i'm not totally finished building it yet. But I will close it up and look at the temps and let you guys know. Hopefully that's all it is.

when you say the case temp, do you mean the temperature inside the case? how do you measure that? and doesn't it change depending on where in the case you're measuring?

Its more of the motherboard temp sensor. As far as where it is located, I dunno.. never looked for it..

MM5 labels as case temp. Asus Probe labels it as MB temp.

Which are showing the same temp level.

Hi Guys, thought ill just drop here... i got similar problems with what discussed here... i have a X2 4200+ on A8N32 SLI with Stock Opteron Cooler... whether i open or close my case the CPU temp stays at 42 under idle or load... and mobo temp ard 44-45... (no oc or whatsoever alll setting run at standard speed and voltage) i don't feel that's normal for the temp to go that high during idle... any clues..? i suspect that the sensor is broken but it's very unlikely... i've tried removing the thermal compound and changing it with arctic silver but no signs of change...
