I am a few days away from ordering the board. Could anyone shed some light. Both models are DDR2 based boards...since I have an extra 2 GB (2 x 1) of DDR2 PC8500 (1066). I have noticed improvements in the P5E with the latest bios 501. Is the cold boot issue with the Maximus Formula fixed? I appreciate any input you can share to help steer me in the right direction

Thanks

Can't help you with the problems with the Maximus but because of that and they also suffer a heat issue apparenty with the supplied heat pipe setup, I went for the P5E

No problems what so ever with it. Easy set up, lots of extra connections on the back make life easier.

I haven't had any issues with my Maxi Formula SE. Infact I can OC past 400FSB without any Voltage boosts. However if you're never really gonna use Crossfire, then I'd go with something less expensive as that's really the only benefit you gain. PCIe 2.0 does provide more juice and a higher bandwidth, but at the same time no GPU's will even fill PCIe 1.0 x16.

There is a youtube video of someone reviewing the P5E board and in the video, he pulls off a sticker that is hiding the Maximus engraving label in the board. Whether this was staged in the video is up for debate but it does appear that the P5E and Max share a similar reference design and layout.

Go to youtube and search for ASUS P5E. You should be able to find it.

only issue with the max formula is overvolting.. but that is because i think asus is playing it safe with regards to overclocking

mine overvolts by .128. so if you want actual 2.1V for example in your ram just use 1.98 or 2.0v in bios.. not such a big prob

so it is true...they are same, minus a port or two and a smaller heatsink. i am totally going to get this board for next build in about 2 months, maybe one...i think the sticker was no trick, i think it was real. anyways, thanks for the info. will the q6600 be just as good as next 9550 overclocked, or just go with the q9550 with this board?
