Hello everybody,

I'm placing this thread because I don't understand what is happening to my PC.

I bought the PC in components and sometimes it shows Q-Code 00 on the motherboard. So I have the following parts:

Intel i5-6600K
ASUS Maximus Ranger VIII
Kingston HyperX DDR4 16GB 2400mhz (2 sticks)
AMD 380 graphicscard
Coolermaster Hyper 212 EVO
Windows 10
Corsair CX500M
SSD and HDD

So I had this problem ever since I upgraded from an amd APU to this mobo, cpu and ram combination. I already had the graphicscard.Whenever it boots, I can play everything correctly. However sometimes when it goes into sleepingmode (or the screen goes) I have to reboot it and sometimes it shows the Q code 00. Most of the time I could fix this by unpowering the PSU, unplugging the PSU to graphicscard cables, plugging back in and then the PC worked again. However since today I'm not able to boot up my PC. De CPU cooler starts running but the PC is not booting up, showing the 00 code.

I hope you guys can help me! As mentioned before this problem is not always present, therefore most of the other threads can't help me as there the problem exists from the first boot.

Thanks in advance!

Peter from the Netherlands

Update: I just looked through my previous threads and remember that in February I was getting little shocks from my PC case, however this problem is not present anymore, allthough I'm not sure if it is significant for this problem.

Update 2: I also have a ROG front base which shows 0000 at the mhz and 0 at the RPM, but whenever I try to boot and the 00 code appears, no information is given (not even zeros).

Update 3: Well now, attached my gf's PSU to my motherboard (8 and 24(?) connectors) boots up perfectly! If my PSU is faulty, how comes it isn't always faulty?

Solution

That's why I said we should try it for a few days and see if the error comes up. It is weird that it's sporadic.
Well strangely, it won't be exactly possible to do that, because:

Today I thought, let's try it again, since this problem does not occur always (but yesterday it did). It was a miracle as it booted up correctly and I'm now posting it from that PC. Could it be that it's just a 500W PSU or anything else? Since my PC is working perfectly now and was dead yesterday... I have no clue what's going on and in this state - sometimes working sometimes not - it might show false result if I test it...

I will try in in the morning (01:14 in the night here). The only problem is that I might not be able to verify your answer as a solution soon (if it is a solution) as the error not always occurs, like I'm on the PC right now.. If it never booted up it would be something different but it's strange that sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes it occurs when I boot it from sleepmodus, sometimes it doesn't. Let's hope it doesn't occur anymore after switching the LN2 switch to off 🙂. Thanks for your responses and btw, nice name ;-).

Goodafternoon!

It has been some time since my PC started working again, all of a sudden. And well, today it started giving the Q-Code 00 again. I really don't understand what's going on since it has worked perfectly again for some time and now it doesn't work anymore, again. It's like there is no explanation for me, since it works one time and doesn't work the other and it's possible that tomorrow it's fine again. Any suggestions?

I hope it's "just" my PSU and not my CPU or motherboard thats causing these problems..

Thanks in advance,

Peter

Ps. It might be relevant but my CPU fan is spinning, the chassis fan directly attached to the PSU is spinning but the chassis fans attached to the mobo are not spinning...

Thank you for your answers!

Since I did the update last friday it worked 3 times again but now it's again on Q-Code 00. I have installed the 8 pin connector in the only way possible to install this 8 pin connector. I use the Corsair CX550M PSU. The strangest part of this whole story is that the error is not consistent - sometimes my PC works fine for weeks and now this whole weekend it's been more down than up and running. SR-71 Blackbird do you think it might be my MOBO?

Thanks,

Peter

I'm a bit lost in the dark here (might be a Dutch expression - or so). I find it very disturbing that the PC doesn't always show this error message, giving the opportunity for false positive results - which nobody would like to have while spending money (e.g. for a new PSU).

I'm open for as many suggestions possible!

Hello everybody,

In the meantime I have contacted ASUS support, as I'm really afraid it's the mobo (and I would hate that considering the price). They have told take everything apart, clear the CMOS, Install CPU, Install stock heatsink (can't because there is no stock heatsink at the i5 6600k), insert 1 ram module in the A2 slot and boot it to see which error code will show - guess what? Q-Code 00... I will try it again in the morning, and immediatly afterwards with my GF's PSU. If it will show 00 again with my PSU and not with my GF's PSU I think it's the best bet to buy a new PSU, what do you guys think about this?

Thanks in advance, and thanks for all the suggestions so far!

Kind regards,

Peter

If it shows up with your gf PSU, then it's a bad mobo. If not, then PSU might be bad. Test for at least a couple of days so we can be certain

Well if it boots up on my GF's PSU, it might be a false positive. But if it also shows a 00 on my GF's PSU atleast once we will know the problem I guess. I can't think it's the CPU since it has been working and still is sometimes when I boot it. It's just this "stupid" thing that it's not a consistent error that makes it more difficult unfortunatly..

Thank you for all the information!
