Hi, I recently purchased this bundle on newegg : http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboBundleDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.2466098

My current issue is motherboard related I believe.. I've followed every step on the manual on how to update my bios.. I'm currently stuck on 0801. I've been trying to upgrade my bios for the past couple hours and have not been able to, It is driving me crazy because I can't seem to find any info on the net regarding the issue. I tried signing up to the asus forums to ask the question but their strict rules on posting means that I'll have to wait a few days before my account even gets approved to "Search" in their forums.

PS: I also tried updating thru the Flashbios USB slot on the back of the board, when I try there, it flashes a few times and then becomes solid forever.

Every time I go into the EZ Bios 3 in the bios no matter how I rename the bios or what version of the bios I try I always get the same error, "Selected file is not a proper bios".. I don't know what to do from here.. I don't even know how to ask.. I just want to be able to upgrade my bios for best performance possible.

Hi,
My recommendation is to not update the BIOS, if not experiencing compatibility issues.
However, try the following:
-download the latest version from https://www.asus.com/Motherboards/MAXIMUS-VIII-RANGER/HelpDesk_Download/
Unzip and rename the MAXIMUS-VIII-RANGER-ASUS-1402.CAP file to M8R.CAP (make sure that the extension is visible, so that you won't rename it to .CAP.CAP).
Save the renamed file on a FAT 32 USB drive. Connect the drive to the USB BIOS Flashback port (check the manual for its location).
Don't start the board, just make sure that the power supply is connected and on.
Press the Flashback button for 3 secs.
The led should flash for bout a minute.
