Question Maxtor 90645D3

I have an old disk drive and want to find out what is on it (and erase it securely if need be) before disposing of it. it's a Maxtor 90645D3. I've tried it with an IDE to USB adaptor, and I can't get it to be recognized; and I am wondering whether it might have CHS rather than LBA addressing. I can't track down any technical information about this model. Can anyone tell me what addressing system it used? - and if it is indeed CHS addressed, whether there's any way of getting the data off it, given that I no longer have the computer it came out of? An old maxtor drive is probably dead at this point. Is the usb adapter powered? You need a powered adapter for an ide 3.5in drive.

thanks. Yes, the adaptor is powered, and I can hear the disk spin up.
