hey guys i put my computer together a few weeks back and was having bad framerates in games and stuff. i found out i had neglected to turn agp mode on . so while doing that i also realized i forgot to install the drivers for my mb an MSI k8n neo 2 mb

after doing that i had a lot of problems with my games. i reinstalled gfx drivers and sound drivers but its still crashing. what it does is the screen goes black and i get a really high pitched beeping sound from my monitor. i never had this happen before i installed the MB drivers

im thinking its screwed since i installed them so late? any ideas on what the problem could be other than that. im probably just gonna reformat and reinstall it with the drivers first right after win2k and hope that helps.

any info would be apreciated this is bugging the hell outa me heres the thread that lead to this problem btw

You're right on the driver problem. You should always start with all mainboard related drivers and onboard devices and then the video drivers. However, you might be able to get rid of the drivers by deinstalling them in Safe Mode. Start with putting the vidoecard in Standard VGA mode and remove the drivers. The try to remove the mainboard drivers and reinstall everything.
However, your suggestion to do a clean install is a safer solution.

Lots of people are not connecting the extra power that the n newer/big GPU's want. They can run regulars stuff but when they try a game it crashes.

Is this you? What is your graphics card?

ya its got an aditional power plug for the gfx card and i have that plugged in. i guess ill do the full reformat and install right now. Ill do the mb drivers as the first thing

If you're hearing a noise from your monitor it's because an invalid synch rate is frying it! Make sure you choose the proper monitor driver.

hrm.. i dont think its a refresh problem i have it set to 75 and mymontior should support that, never had problems in the past.

grrr damnit this time after the full reinstall i got weird hangups so i quit the game and got a msg that vpu recover has reset my gfx accelerator as it was no longer responding >_< this is really anoying i dont know if its my mb, or my gfx card or what. my gfx card never had problems before though. is there a program i can test to see if im only having problems with this game? any other sugestions?

maybe this is a dumb question but is having nvidia nforce drivers causing a problem with an ATI video card?

Is the fan on the graphic card run free? maybe the noise come from something in the fans making it to run slower, or even not running, which result in overheating and vpu crash.

-Always put the blame on you first, then on the hardware !!!
