I have a new Motherboard which got zapped when i was attempting to install a graphics card. I have swapped out the MB for a new one and just for fun I connected the old MB to a PSU to see if I had missed some thing etc etc. The LED didn't light up so i figured yup.... toast. When I went to disconnect the ATX cable etc I noticed that there was a spot close to the PCIe slot and the back of the card near the LAN plug etc that was VERY hot given it was plugged in for only such a small amount of time. When I looked a little close i noticed a "loose" capacitor next to a crystal in that area. no rounded top on the cap but I'm wondering if the fact that it is the only loose one on the board and it was right where the heat was if the two events were connected. The MB is brand new and has ZERO time on it so if replacing a cap can save it I'll give it a go ($190 MB). Thanx for your input.
