Building a custom PC. Having the P4 3.2Ghz processor.
I was planning on having the Intel D875PBZ board.

Is there a board anybody can recommend over the D875PBZ for a similar price and why?

A good board for overclocking my CPU would be good.

ABIT IS7 would be as good as anything, especially for overclocking. Really no advantage in an 875 board over an 865PE.

Abit IS7 - 3.0C @ 3.6ghz - Mushkin PC4000 (2 X 512) - Sapphire 9800Pro - TT 420 watt Pure Power
Samsung 120gb ATA-100 - Maxtor 40gb ATA - 100
Sony DRU-510A - Yellowtail Merlot

Thanks for the reply, but the 864 chipsets don't support Performance Acceleration Technology (PAT), so the 875 will perform slightly better.

I have an asus p4c800-e
People say its not that good but i dont have any commplaints

System Spec's:
Asus P4c800-E 3.2e @3.8ghz
1gb corsair xms pro2-2-2-5 aiw 9800 pro
audigy 2zs klipsch ultra's
74gb raptor wd 2000jb
pioneer 108 pioneer 120s

865 boards have been hacked to support PAT. This is very old news.

That must be why the MSI-865PE-NeoFIS2R beat ALL other P4 motherboards, including 875's, in benchmarks at Anandtech last year. They must be stupid there.

Is that sarcasm? I've made two posts in the last week and on both have recieved arogant replies.
I have done my best to browse the site for as much info as possible but excuse me if i wasn't aware of "Anandtech last year" or the "old news" that the 865 chipset can be hacked to support PAT.
I think next time i'll ask my question in another forum where people are a little more polite.

lee, ya gotta have thick skin where ever you post with people involved. Let it roll off, and gleem the info that is inbetween.
Lots of boards are good and will satisfy you, just look at the features of the top brands, Asus, Abit, GigaByte, MSI, DFI etc. and read details and reviews on the ones you have narrowed your search to.
It will come.

I like the Gigabyte GA-8KNXP series for that processor.

Thanks Rich.
I did actualy do as you advised. I saw the THG 24 motherboard review and saw that the MSI 865PE Neo2-PFISR did indeed beat all other competition, and therefore i'll probably go with that one. It would just have been nice to get that information in a more pleasant way.

Lee, you're the one telling me that the 875 should perform better than the 864. It's my job to give out bad information, not yours. I have an MSI-865PE NEO2-PLS to build and I'm just dreading it. I've had lousy luck with MSI boards. BIOS issues, ram compatibility, you name it. That's why I recommended the IS7.

It seems like you either get a good one or a disaster. There's no in-between. MSI likes to load up on features and models. It's nothing to see them release 10 different BIOS's in a year trying to solve glitches on just a single board. I had an 875 NEO-FIS2R that ran perfect with OCZ memory. The minute I switched to Mushkin PC4000 it never ran right again. I switched to Kingston and I still couldn't make it run right. MSI tech support sent me a Beta-BIOS that disabled PAT! Nice fix, huh? I finally took everyone's advice here and got an IS7. No crashes, no issues with any sticks I've tested in it, and it O'Cs better than the NEO board ever did. A good place to visit for MSI info is this forum.

Do MSI have a rep for unreliable mboards?
Not necessarily. But you always have to keep in mind that MSI is still sort of a "budget" manufacturer. They don't make bad stuff, but the "big names", mentioned above, are considered "big names" for a reason.
