MBR or GPT? (When adding additional SSD to laptop that has M.2 Storage for OS & Drivers)

I am adding an SSD (500gb) for basic storage (Editing Programs, Games, Videos, Picture Files & Documents) to a laptop that has an M.2 SSD for the OS and main drivers. (128gb)
However, when I am trying to add the regular SSD, (through initialization and formatting)
I am not sure which Format/Partition style is best to choose for this.

Which one should I choose......…...MBR or GPT?

I don't understand what each one is used for.

System is Windows 10 Pro

TL;DR: use GPT, it's the modern standard. MBR is old and has been replaced by GPT.
