Somehow McAfee has got on to one of my PC's. It dominates the entire monitor screen demanding that I purchase their product. It won't allow me to see any other apps, even task manager is hidden.

When I reboot it goes away after the boot is complete and all appears normal, but It comes back again in less than 15 seconds..

This happened after I installed: HWINFO64, Revo Uninstaller, TechPowerUp GPU-Z, and OCCT.

How can I eliminate this " Virus"? Thanks, Jim

PS: The OS is Windows 11 Pro

mcafee almost is a virus but more like those annoying people calling you pretending they want to buy your house.

They pay lots of companies to bundle it with their driver installs. You had to be very careful when you installed the software for say a new video card to be sure to uncheck the "free trial" of mcafee.

I think mcafee is almost a marketing company now rather than a tech company. The virus/malware protection built into windows for free is all most people need and it silently runs and mostly never causes you issues.

I am very good and not letting mcafee get installed but it likely has some kinda hidden button to uninstall it.

Worst case you reinstall windows which also is the best option for real virus.

Although it likely will do no good you can report them to the government consumer protection department. They have gotten sanctioned in the past for stuff like this.

Keep in mind that no Antivirus will protect you against a Zero Day Virus. Antivirus protects your from KNOWN virus's that have already been a Zero Day. In my opinion, antivirus software companies have turned into legal hi-tech scammers for people that install software from places they should not, and clicking and/or opening emails or files from unknown places and people. It does give people a sense of false hope that they are protected. To each their own.
