As the title describes, I have a Thermaltake Poseidon Z full-size mechanical keyboard that is misbehaving. Out of the blue it started to randomly press things like the windows key and lock my out of my computer, or would open up the search bar and type in random letters that didn't make any sense. I know most of you are probably like "wow man, this is definitely a virus." but I don't think that it is. I plugged in two different keyboards and neither of them did it. I haven't tried plugging the thermaltake keyboard into a different computer, but will try that when I get off of work later tonight. I was wondering if anybody on here had any advice on how to fix this problem. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys!

What everyone is really thinking : "Wow man, you spilled on your keyboard."

Doesn't sound like a virus what so ever

Also there is no fix if this is the case. The keyboard is most likely toast. I had to unplug my laptops keyboard because of a spill, it would type random shit and I wasn't able to get my password in to log on.

Okay, thanks for being condescending. I haven't spilled anything on this keyboard, I've only had it for a couple of days. Do you have any advice on how to fix the issue?

If you just got it, return it. Thats the best I could suggest. Sorry if I sounded condescending but that sounds exactly like water damage to me.

Well if you open up a keyboard you would see how this can happen, you have two sheets of plastic like paper sandwiched together, there is a web of contact points that when a key is pressed down on top they complete that circuit . If you spilled something then your keyboard would not work at all, as
all the contact points would be shorted out. If its rather new My best guess is that you got a bad keyboard. If its kinda old then I wold suspect the keys got pounded on , or a minor spill. condensation inside the casing would also cause this. You could try and open it up to see the condition of the plastic sheets inside, it might be screwed down to tight, loosening the screws that hold the casing in place might help. If the sheets look like they have moisture on them you can take apart and wipe them with a soft paper towel

Opening it may void your warranty/the return policy (however I doubt they would notice if you do it correctly and safely). You only got it two days ago, you should really just bring it back and get a new one imho.

I'll probably have to RMA it which sucks because I'll probably have to pay for shipping and possibly restocking. I do want to try just loosening the screws on the casing, since there isn't really a single way that could go wrong.

Yeah its worth a shot for sure

Well I just had a buddy try my keyboard on his computer, and he said he had it connected and was using it for over an hour and nothing happened like what I described. The big difference between our machines are our operating systems: I have Windows 8 while he has Windows 7. Do you guys think it could be driver or OS related?

Maybe, but it really sounds like a hardware issue... thats pretty strange. You can try the drivers of course. You also said you tried other keyboards in the usb and they worked fine? Maybe try another usb port as well?

Yeah, I tried all of the USB ports as well, and they all did the same thing. I had one of my coworkers tell me that something could be interfering with my keyboard. I have a strip of LED lights set up around my computer desk and they're plugged into the same power strip as my computer. He said that those lights could be causing weird things to be happening in my computer. I doubt it, but I guess its worth it to just turn them off when I get home and see what happens.

For anybody wondering, it actually was the LED lights. As soon as i turned them off, everything that was happening stopped immediately. Whenever I would turn them back on, it would start happening again almost instantly. I don't know why the lights would interfere with my keyboard like that, and I honestly wasn't expecting that. Thanks for helping me with all of your suggestions, guys. I really appreciate it!
