[citation][nom]liquid0h[/nom]I got excited till I saw the pay-to-win part of the game. Boooooooo![/citation]

It's not a pay-to-win game...
Learn about the game before you judge it...

This game is going to suck my life away for sometime. I love MechWarrior and I will glad invest money into this game to support the devs.

[citation][nom]EvilMonk[/nom]Oh my god your aunt is so cool what is she doing for a living? online cam whore?[/citation]

Please do not knock my profession. I am a proud man cam-whore.

As a person who's been on the MWO Forums for ages and ages at this point, I can vouch that the game isn't pay to win. It's about playing your mech competently. Paying just increases the rate at which you earn things but at the end of the day, if you don't play with skill, you won't get anywhere with all the cash in the world.

It's more, pay to get that next mech faster more so then pay to make your mech unstoppable. The game devs are adamant on this. They don't want to make World of Tanks with Mechs. MechWarrior deserves better then that and that's what Pirahna Games Incorporated is going to deliver.

Thank you for this information. You just helped MWO make a sale. :)

The game has an in-game-currency. Doesn't get much more obvious than that buddy.

[citation][nom]apone[/nom]Seriously Direct X9? What is this, 2003?[/citation]

A quick note (again, pulling from my experience on the MWO forums), there is a DirectX11 version as well in the works. DirectX9 is the bare minimum. Just how the Crytek Engine 3 is DirectX9 minimum.

So true and I am guite sure that there still is more DX9 machines out there than DX10 or DX11 machines... Same situation allways... We can expect to see DX9 games at least 3-5 years from now. The situation is going to change when the support to winXP is going to end next year though, but not totally.

Just because there is "In game currency" which is C-Bills, this doesn't have anything to do with P2W. Everyone in the game earns money, regardless of whether or not they pay. The only thing paying does is earn a % more money (in which case, could be 75% more at the most extreme). However, that does not make them a better player or give their 'mech any tactical/armament benefit over someone who does not pay. A medium laser is a medium laser, regardless of how you bought it (earned the money in game or paid for it with cash) or which 'mech is using it. Also, even if you do earn 75% more money than joe-schmo, a bad pilot will still earn very little money. $0 + 075% bonus is still zero. The end of the day it doesn't matter how much money you have, you need to be skilled at piloting your 'mech to be a threat.

You have to realize, the Free to Play model has a very rock past. Many games were in fact Pay to Win. This is why MechWarrior online is getting a ton of scrutiny.
If the developers think they can keep a business model going where it's free to play and no unfair advantages are given, then good on them. I doubt they can pull it off though. It's hard to see that getting skins for your mech or earning a little money faster will sustain them for the long run. Something will have to be offered to entice the paying players to stay.

Well. So far, approximately 8200 people have paid $120 for the Legendary Founders Pack which includes no materials that are 'pay to win'. Along with other packages, last I counted, MWO has already made about $1,300,000 or so and the game isn't due for a true release for at least 2 months yet.

Can you show me sources please? Didn't find any on google searches.

Those stats sound impressive on the surface. However, that the average programmer makes $75k, plus various monthly admin costs and server farm costs. That money runs out pretty fast.

Here is how I figured out the data. Again, these are approximate figures assuming the forums aren't lying to me. There is an option on the forums to look up the overall top posters (which will list -everyone-). And it gives you options to narrow it down and sort by different means. You can sort by the different founder types: Legendary, Elite, and Veteran.

By doing so and setting the amount of names per page by 10, we get 837 pages of 10 Legendary Members (8370 * $120 = $1,016,400), 525 pages of 10 Elite Members (5250 * $60 = $315,000) and 63 Pages of 10 Veteran Members (630 * $30 = $18900).

Add the three together and you get a whopping total of $1,350,300. And remember, these are all for cosmetic things and/or things that boost the rate at which you earn C-Bills. None of these packages involve anything that give you an edge in combat prowess, just the rate at which you earn gear and mechs.
