Media files disappear when migrating from Win 7 to Win 8

On my old Win7 machines, I noticed that two of my 3 Enya albums looked "grey"--but they always work fine. When I copied all my music files to the Win8 machine, the "non-grey" folder (album) shows up just fine, but the "grey" ones do not. I just tried to remedy the situation by copying the grey ones on to a flash drive and putting it in the USB port on the Win8 machine: Nothing there!! So apparently Win8 refuses to recognize the "grey" files--it's as if they don't exist! Any ideas?

Solution
Right-click on the files and see if there is an option to take ownership.

If the option is not there, maybe this will help.

I don't think so. I was able to play the files from the flash drive before I attempted to use them on Win 8. Am I right to assume that if they were copy protected that I would not have been able to copy them to the flash drive?

If they are somehow copy protected, how could I discover that (beyond what I've already described?
