I bought a B450M DS3H with a AMD RYZEN 3 2200G 3.5GHZ 6MB AM4, and came with 2x DDR4 CORSAIR 8GB 2400MHZ VENGEANCE LPX BLACK (1X8) part # (CMK8GX4M1A2400C16), and then I decided to put 2 more banks o 8GB (each) to have 32GB in total. For that I looked on Amazon and found a kit Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 DRAM 2400MHz C16 Desktop Memory Kit - Black (CMK16GX4M2A2400C16).
When I tried to add those memories to my desktop, I won´t start (not even BIOS).
I removed all the memory and installed only one of the CMK16GX4M2A2400C16 and it worked ok.
Then I added the second bank in position 2 and same problem again.
Moved the bank to position 3 to separate the pairs and problem continued.
In the end I had to put back the 2 CMK8GX4M1A2400C16 and remove the brand new ones, computer started normally.
Both sets are same Frequency, same Cas Latency, same capacity but wont work together or the second set alone either.

I've noticed the difference in the model number is :

  • CMK8GX4M1A2400C16
  • CMK16GX4M2A2400C16
What can be the problem?
And how can I identify models from same brand or other manufacturer to avoid the same problem i had?

P.S. Now I am buying 2 of the first model, that are the ones that came with the desktop

Can you look at the BIOS version for your motherboard at this moment of time? I'm assuming you have an update pending. In spite of an update if you still make it work, If I were you, I'd have tried to source the exact same sticks of ram. If you want to stick with the kit you purchased(new) then see if both sticks from the new kit and see if they both work individually when placed in one slot(DDR4_1 only), as stated in the motherboard manual.

Also, please list your specs like so:
CPU:
Motherboard:
Ram:
SSD/HDD:
GPU:
PSU:
Chassis:
OS:

Keep in mind, If you purchase a kit, then the manufacturer can guarantee they will work, because they do test the RAM in Kit. But if you mix two kits, there is no guaranty the RAM will work together, just like your case.

If you get the problem, try update the chipset driver, MB bios, also tweak the RAM timing, the voltage, lower speed, etc. If you still have the problem, nothing you can do. Then you need to buy the 2X 16GB or 4x 8GB kit, if you want 32GB.
