I have a Gigabyte ga-ex58-ud3r motherboard. The DDR3_1 (first) memory socket on this MB has gone bad. The manual says the following, "When enabling Dual Channel mode with two memory
modules, be sure to install them in the DDR3_1 and DDR3_4 or DDR3_1 and DDR3_2 sockets." My question are:
1. How much faster is dual channel than single channel?
2. Since my DDR3_1 socket has gone bad, I have my two memory sticks (2GBx2GB) installed in the right two slots (DDR3_2 and DDR3_4), I assume this means I'm in single channel mode?
3. The second socket is in blue and the rest are white. What does the blue signify?
4. The memory configuration tables for dual and 3 channel show specific slots to use, however, I can really use any slot w/out causing any problems, right? Using random slots just means I won't be in the dual or 3 channel configuration, right?

Solution
1. depends on the applicartio but up to 30% faster
2. Yes
3. Different colours for different channel sets. First set into blue, second set into white
4. No. You should replace your motherboard
