What speed pf DDR2 you can get depends on your motherboard. If your board uses DDR2 you would need a new one to use DDR3 and depending on what cpu you have you may need to upgrade it aswell. We'll need more information on your motherboard to give a more complete answer.

as stated we need a bit more info to fully help you.

max DDR2 is 1066 MHz VS DDR3 2800+ MHz

Yes DDR3 is much faster depending on what you get for speed. They do make DDR3 1066 MHz but DDR3 ram requires a newer motherboard to run it. Most times it is a better use of your money to get a new CPU, Motherboard and Ram instead of upgrading an old DDR2 system. DDR2 ram is very expensive right now and will not go down. In fact it has gone up in price over that past 3 months.

When I built my system, I went with DDR2 ram because I had it already and was on a major budget. I will never recommend doing DDR2 ram now that the price of DDR3 ram is so low.
