Hello...

I just bought a memory stick, Crucial PC5300 DDR2 1G 667 for my Vista-based Toshiba Satellite 2246. I installed it in addition to the 512MB that originally came with the system. When I rebooted it shows only 894MB in the System. Can someone explain to me what happened? Thank you very much.

could you provide more information such as system specs and such?

In the worst case scenario the memory might be bad but since its registering i dont think thats the problem

are the memory modules the same type as in speed and timings?

there are some known issues with vista where it uses some of your ram for other applications so if you download and run cpu-z it will tell you if this is the case because the full amount of ram would register

Another problem might be that your motherboard doesnt support more than that amount of ram or you have a faulty motherboard, although this probably isnt the case either

i cant really think of anything else without more information but check and see if your ram is seated properly
