Memory problem with new system

Hello all. I have a rather odd problem with a new system I just built, related to the memory. I'm using a 512 MB stick of Geil value memory, but for some reason my system only sees 511 MB of memory. Also, I've never had any problems while running the system, but EVERY time I shut down Win 98, I get a blue screen that says I have a memory parity error and the system was halted. I ran Memtest for 3 hours last night and never had a single problem (it also listed the size as 512, so I don't think the memory's the issue. Have any of you seen this before, or have any ideas on what it could be. Here's my specs:

Athalon XP 2600+
Epox 8RDA3+
ATI Radeon 9600 Pro 128MB
SoundBlaster Live X-Gamer 3.1
Aopen 350W PSU

It sounds like a driver issue, don't know where to go from there.
