is it safe to ship memory in cardboard alone? whats the method you use?

I'd just wrap each one in a small piece of cardboard. Should be fine, they aren't very sensitive.

At my old job we literally had a drawer full of memory, banging around. Never had problems with any of them.

I do not see a problem with that.
Just make certain that the cardboard is sturdy enough to keep the ram from bending.

I would recommend that they be wrapped in an anti-static bag, the bag taped shut, and then sealed in a bubblewrap envelope. Crushing is always a problem with cardboard boxes and you definitely don't want them banging around; couriers handle soft envelopes with much more care.
