Hi, I have an HP Compaq 6710b laptop and I am looking into increasing its memory. CPU-Z reports I currently have a 1GB chip installed in slot 1 and slot 2 is empty.

I checked this website for compatible memory modules : http://www.crucial.com/upgrade/HP+-+Compaq-memory/HP+Business+Notebooks/Business+Notebook+6710b+Series-upgrades.html and it reports that I can install for example 2x2GB modules.

My difficulty is that when I open the memory slot on the bottom of the laptop there is only one slot which is empty... Excuse my ignorance, but how can I replace (where is?) the module I currently have in slot 1 to be able to install the two new modules in slots 1 and 2?

Many thanks for your assistance.

Many HP-Compaq models have one DIMM behind the keyboard. Lots of 'dead space' between cut-outs in the plastic framework under the keyboard that can be partially reclaimed by mounting stacked components on the board's backside. In my HPaq laptop, the dial-up modem, WiFi and another module (forgot what it was) are slotted behind the keyboard as well.

Once you commit to using the keyboard as a makeshift access cover, might as well make good use of it.

I know this is an old thread, but I had the same question and this sorted me for my nx7300. Thanks!
