More complications (Maybe). Bought 4GB- 4 sticks in 2 packages. HP KTC3288/2048
One pair is a single board with memory both sides. Other 2 have 2 boards hooked together and memory both exterior sides of board. Both have only 1 connector strip. Are they both functionally the same and just manufactured differently?
They are all Kingston. Will the two different sticks function as pairs?
Thanks
Robert
When updating ECC DDR3 memory for one of the Xeons in my HP ML350P, I discovered you need to add RAM in a particular sequence, fitting DIMMs into consecutively numbered slots. Only when I adhered to the sequence did the server POST after upgrading.
As for memory functioning in pairs, do you know if your CPU is dual channel (2 matched DIMMs) or quad channel (4 matched DIMMs), or doesn't care how many DIMMs you add? Do you know if your CPU is dual channel or quad channel?
With something that old (PC-100 memory) and no mention of your server's model number, your best bet is to install the memory and see what happens. If it complains and doesn't POST, remove the sticks one at a time until it boots normally.
