theres is two model of 530 one just support intel 2 duo and that one just support 4GB the other one support intel core 2 quad and the quad one support up to 8GB

so if you know what cpu is in yours, then you will know what to do

I own a Dell 530 Inspiron and someone else asked this very same question in another thread.
Here's what you need to know:
Careful on the ram upgrade, your motherboard may not be able to handle more than 4GB's regardless of the OS (32Bit vs. 64Bit) you install or how much physical ram you try and put in.

There were 5 different models of that motherboard. Depending on which model you have, you can only have 4GB's, some models allow 8GB's.

See page 110 of the owner's manual. You can download that at Dell's support site after you enter your service code. Look for "Manuals" on the left side of the page.
You'll have to open your case to identify what mobo you have, then scroll through the pictures of the different models in the owners manual to identify which model you have.

Then page 179 lists which models will hold what for maximum memory- 4GB or 8GB.

my motherboard model is a OFM586

you can try 8gb, but online it says the max ram for that motherboard is 4gb

Yes it is Alex_354, but they made different models of that motherboard: 530, 530a, 530c, etc...

Any chance you've got the Dell service number for the 530? It's usually found on a sticker either on the back of the PC or near the back but on the top of the case towards the back.
Enter that at the Dell support center and look up the owner's manual for the 530 and look on the pages I mentioned in the earlier message I posted here.

It's all right in the owner's manual, just look through the book/pdf, then open the side of your case and look at your motherboard. Match what it looks like to one of the several pictures the owner's manual provides to help people out in situations just like the one you're in now......
