Hey guys, i know i have been asking quite alot about RAID and different storage configurations the past couple of days, im just starting to get into the software side of computers. This MAY be the last question i have.

Is there any way to merge a partition on one drive with a different drive. For example, my main boot drive has 2 partitions, boot and space, and i have a second drive with nothing on it, Is it possible to merge the empty partition on my boot drive with the empty second drive?

If you need any more info, please let me know.

Thanks guys

If I remember correctly you can't make a spanned disk out of the boot drive in windows... although I might be wrong on that count (I have confirmed this one, you can't do it through Windows). Regardless Windows won't let you edit the boot drive so you would have to do any kind of editing for that through the bios (if it has jbod spanning, [strike]I've never seen one with it yet[/strike]*) or through a boot-able disk (no idea how/if this would work, it's just the only option).

If you want to make a spanned volume it has to be in addition to the boot volume, not a part of the boot volume.

*It looks like most bios jbod will do this trick for you, but I can't confirm since I have never tried it and can't find a reliable source with information on...
Hey dude, thanks for the quick reply. I tried to make a dynamic disk by making a spanned volume in disk managment, but the option for it was greyed out on the partition. Is it the same thing?

Also, do you not have to mkae the whole disk dynamic for me to make a spanned volume, that would make my boot sector dynamic and unable to boot? sorry if im being stupid, i literally only started learning about all this yesterday.

The issue is that you will have to reformat and reinstall your disks to make this work as a boot drive... if it will at all. Also it depends if jbod in your bios is the same thing as jbod spanning... also up in the air currently.

Please let us know how it goes if you try this.
