Microphone not working.

I tried right click on the sound properties and made sure it isn't hidden. I tried installing random drivers. I tried other weird stuff and it still isn't detecting my microphone, is it because i don't have windows essentials? By the way I have windows 7 64 bit.

Are you a mic you plug in or is it an internal mic?

I'm using an IBM workstation and no it's not internal, I bought it and it's working with a laptop but not with my PC.
