You never mentioned in your original post what model your motherboard is. That will tell us what on-board audio chip you have.
In my "Sound, video and game controllers", i have NVIDIA High definition audio [for my Nvidia video card], VIA HD Audio [for the VIA audio chip on my motherboard] and Bluetooth Hands-free Audio [for an Asus Bluetooth USB Adapter i have plugged into my motherboard].
In your Sound, video and game controllers, we should see the audio controller for your on-board audio chip, but for some reason it's not there, unless your on-board audio is by Nvidia. I'm not sure.
My motherboard is a Z270 krait gaming. Ive done some research on it and this is the only thing i could find (Audio Boost 4 with Nahimic 2)
my sound was working fine without the mic its only when i got the splitter cable it started having static noises
i found a driver for my audio chip ill try download it and see if that does anything.
Your MSI Z270 KRAIT GAMING motherboard uses a "Realtek ALC1220 audio chip" built onto the board. "Audio Boost 4 with Nahimic 2" is an built in amplifier using audio-grade capacitors to amplify the audio signal put out by the ALC1220 audio chip.
That means In your "Sound, video and game controllers", you should see the Realtek ALC1220 audio listed.
Here is a thread in the MSI forum about ALC1220 Sound Issues: https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=281239.0
