For many MONTHS I've been having this problem and it's only just started to really annoy me. My microphone seems to make a whining type of noise in the background and the general audio quality (my voice) is terrible. I'm using the sound card "C-Media PCI Audio Device" as I cannot find the correct audio files for the built on ports on my motherboard.

I've tried moving my graphics card in to the top PCI x16 slot, further away from the sound card as I thought maybe it was interfering with it. This didn't help either. I was wondering if I bought a USB Snowball mic, would I experience the exact same problem with the noise as I am now? Or would it not happen as It would be connected via USB 3.0. Would the quality also be better?

I really need to get this fixed as it's driving me crazy and my friend who I'm on skype with everyday.

You mentioned that you couldn't find the right audio files for your motherboard. What is your motherboard model?
