I think that Jezus53 get it right. MS-does not luse anything by using Metro-UI. They get their own store in there, pure profit. They got unifield UI to all platforms, pure profit. They have allready win7, if people are not going to use win8 just now, so they don't even lose any customers. They have at least 6 years time to make Modern UI so much better that more and more people will move to use it in win9, or win10, so all in all there propably are so few peoples who goes to Linux or iOS that they don't have to change their plans.
As someone said... IF Linux would have good game support nad some other key programs in their pockets it would be extremely good alternative to Windows, but it don't have those. Normal user can not install their device drivers by using the Linux command promt. Linux is a exelent OS and it is getting closer and closer to Windows and iOS in how easy it is use it, but there still is some difficulties to Joe Average to jump the Linux vagon. I really hope that Linux will be a realistic alternative to those two big OS. So that every new program and game and aplication that will be released to Windows is released allso in Linux. But at this moment we are really far a way from that situation.
In meanwhile MS can do allmost anything it wants. The tablets are selling better and better, so win8 is a big deal to MS. Much more that those who allready use win7, or XP or what ever windows version.

I really dont care fore the start button, now it just seems like a wasted space of screen real estate, right clicking in the bottom left corner was fine with me. And integrating bing search when all i want to do is find a specific document I typed? So when it doesnt find it its going to show me crap thats on the net?

Apparently the fools are going to "restore" a Start Button but no Start Menu, merely having the Start Button take people back to the hated Metro UI.
No restored Start Menu equals Microsoft is lying though their teeth about listening to their customers. If the restored Start Button just takes a user back to Metro, Microsoft has pretty much just spit in the faces of their users and has indicated that it no longer has any real interest in remaining in business, because the outrage that will be engendered by such a move will make the anger triggered by the original Start Menu removal look trivial.
Potential users are waiting to see if 8.1 shows Microsoft is listening or not. If not, then the current stall-out in PC sales will be nothing compared to what’s going to occur after the poke-you-in-the-eye-with-a-stick 8.1 patch is released.
Given what’s coming down the pike with 8.1 and Xbox One, Steve Ballmer seems absolutely determined to kill Microsoft.

They finally bring back the start button, and everyone finds something else to complain about.
My thoughts exactly. I've read a few different sites about MS and I gotta hand it to Tom's Hardware for having the most complainers out of them all. If MS actually listens to the people and gives back what we asked for there will always be someone on Tom's Hardware to spark up a new complaint without ever saying "Thank You" for fixing the previous issue.

Most of them who complained only talked about the Start button and rarely mention the Start menu. :pt1cable:

Hello...Hello...Hello.... MS could you hear us.....Don't up again....
I used to be Windows guy for years. But recently, I like to enjoy program Xcode with my lovely iPad. Grand Central Dispatch is the way to go.... go Apple...go Apple...

I'm already running 8 PC's in my house with Fire GL video cards (for 4 monitors). That lets me have a total of 32 picture frames up at any time. I am saving so much money!!!

The start button does not mean anything, what users are concerned about is the start menu, you can call the button what ever you want, as long as it opens that menu and not that metro crap.

I'm still not seeing a pending reason to go through the process and time of upgrading my OS. From what I see the benefits do not seem to be a whole lot unless you are using touchscreen 100% of the time. Now if Microsoft really wanted to convert me they would make HAL9000 available through their Narrator and voice activation feature. That would be enough to entice me to do the upgrade at this juncture...

Microsoft, you aren't responding to customer feedback. Let us choose freely between Metro and the desktop. Let us boot to the desktop if we want. Let us have the vista/7 startmenu back if we want.
Otherwise we'll just keep on using Start8 or an older operating system.
A few other issues; With Explorer.exe
I hope Windows Blue's Explorer will finally support file paths longer than 255 characters in length. NTFS support thousands of characters in length. I have to use totalcommander to do file transfers, renaming and deletions in deeply nested folders.
Also I hope Explorer will finally use the correct units for file storage. MiB and GiB instead of MB and GB.
That is the source of confusion when everybody complains about a 1TB hard drive only having 931GB of capacity! It is because Windows lies. It says 931GB as the capacity even though the value is in the units of GiB.
Get your units straight.
Task manager; Task manager deletes it's settings from the registry whenever you open it, so, if the computer happens to crash while Task Manager is open, you lose all your settings such as columns enabled.
That's why I backed up the registry settings for it onto a .reg on the desktop. If it happens to crash, I can recover the settings easily. But why is Task Manager designed this way. It simply isn't logical.

Also, I wish when enumerating the amount of files and folders in a folder full of thousand of files/folders by right clicking, hitting properties, Instead of watching the numbers going up and not knowing when it is done enumerating, please make some sort of animation or maybe a progress bar in that window.

I am working on a computer build or I should say rebuild, I built this computer several months ago, about a month ago I was on the internet and got a real bad ass Trojan virus (even though I had Norton 360 and other protection software) that really messed it up, my only option is to install new clean hard drives and I plan to reinstall Windows 7 Ultimate on it. I also have a laptop which has Windows 8 installed on it (it came with Windows 8 installed) and I plan to remove it and install Windows 7 Ultimate, I just do not like the Windows 8 so my two computers will have Windows 7 Ultimate installed. I would like to ask if anyone known of a really terrifically good internet virus, Trojan, spyware, adware, popup blocker, mind-your-own-business protection software.

Personally i don't mind metro in itself. Its just the metro/desktop hybrid that really does not do well with me. If it were up to me i would either have metro or a desktop interface not both.

Microsoft is acting like a spoiled brat that keeps bragging about the "return" of start button while it is not what their users have in mind. Not sure why Microsoft keeps choosing this route of offending their users. It is like they feel insecure about not being able to make an impact in tablets and mobile phone scene so far, and therefore do what a child would normally do, throwing a tantrum.

You don't get it MS. We don't want just a button we want the start menu back. Metro is is annoying, i don't want something that covers what i am doing to blast me with ad's.

Yes because everyone was waiting to use there PC as a picture frame, useing a 27" inch display as a Frame sure makes sense WHEN IT COMES TO THE POWER BILL... ur better off buying a cheap tablet or a frame, the power bill will make it worth in a couple months for sure.

Microsoft could do far worse. For example, they could hire the people responsible for the bloated, "doesn't work most of the time when you are trying to comment or rate a comment" Tomshardware site.

Laughable. Why would they bring back the old, useless start button? And how is it better for business? I don't care for the modern UI-apps myself, but the new start screen is amazing. People should try and open up their eyes for new things, and get out of the limited past!

Lack of a Start Menu did not prevent me from getting Windows 8, because I am not a big cry-baby
...
Sure I installed ClassicShell and got a Start Menu back but I still use the taskbar to launch my most frequent programs and the enhanced Explorer to navigate files
...
To stamp your feet and say "I refuse to install 8 because they took away my Start Menu" is just childish, most of the worst offenders have spent 100 times the time and effort complaining than just installing a free replacement, plus download stats for the free replacements send bigger message than forum moaning
