[citation][nom]twisted politiks[/nom]Funny, after reading all of the bad talk on the windows 8 start screen, I was skeptical on switching over. After seeing the windows 8 upgrade pro for $40, I couldn't pass it up (poor college student living on his own). I must say, I have no idea what everybody is talking about with the start screen, I'm just going to assume they haven't used it. I use it as a giant start button, all my programs, directories, and control panel stuff is on there. I am loving it, and am glad I switched over to windows 8. The apps are nice as well, as they provide a more streamlined, aesthetically pleasing environment.[/citation]
Start screen isn't a start menu, it's a shell replacement.
I don't wan't MS taking the desktop away, or limiting it any more, so i'm not going to use Win 8.

Gone are those days (DOS,Windows 95), when the preloaded OS comes with a soft bound user manual. They are easier to follow than an e-book.

[citation][nom]Tomfreak[/nom]I already have 2 copies of win8 for $15 each, just because someone doesnt agree with ur opinion doesnt make them a troll.[/citation]

Don't cry cause I caught you...

what is with the start button? I use windows 7 every day, both as user and level 3 desktop support, apart from when i need to open the calculator or hit the search box i can't remember the last time i used it

is there a taskbar in win8?
the thing is i don't use the start button in win7, but what i have and use is lots of shortcuts for programs in the taskbar

Ignoring the obvious joke...

Why doesn't microsoft just release multiple version of Windows that have very different UIs and features/functionality? I personally would love a Windows "classic" edition. A simple, sleek UI like Win9x or Win3.11 that supports all the latest software and hardware. Better yet, one that has much better legacy hardware/software support, even if you so have to sacrifice some functionality.

Then also have a WinXP-type version that has support for the newest directx/API, software/hardware, and whatnot. This would give people maximum flexibility, without having to give up any functionality.

Finally, have a metro version for those who love the simple tile interface, like the current Win8. MS could really win back the hearts of their consumers if they could pull off something like this.

That would be too easy..... I made a simple choice..... I am replacing windows 7 with windows server 2012, turning off all the services I do not need to use, and running it in console mode. Ever heard of DOS, it is a technological break through...... 🙂

Lets see, MY computer, need start menu for that (prefer it) control panel, games list ( I don't want a desktop FULL of icons My pictures, frequently used programs, WMP...

I REALLY hate quick-launch programs next to the start menu, it looks cluttered & bulky, so I only have ONE quicklaunch program & its firefox.
