If only our Windows games ran on OSX...the "Icon-i-ness" of windows and the geeky ambiguity of the unix CLI in terminal....something for both camps.

I used to miss the start button too, but my menu was always stupid long anyhow, so I just search or pin those apps I use constantly to the taskbar like I did anyhow. I'll take the tradeoff of the missing start button vs the improvements in the code base (less fat, can fix itself except for network troubleshooter still...that's still useless as crap)

Yeah...I found that OSX handled huge amounts of files much better than 7. 7 would always have a stroke and lock when dealing with my 2 tb hardrive full of files, OSX never crashed. OSX seems to have a better network stack than 7 by far too. I can't really test it against 8 because my 2 tb HDD ate it before I upgraded.

If we're being totally honest, I hate OSX with a firey passion. I'd sooner use Chromium OS.

Kinda how I feel towards Linux in general. OSX does have some awful crap...like the DOCK for instance, but it has good bones. I actually like 8.1 enough that my OSX install got wiped.

Gotta say, I'm still really on the fence about whether I like Windows 8 or not. I've just installed it over Windows 7 (I was lucky - I'm a salesperson so MS gave me a free copy of 8 when it came out) but I find that it's kind of organizationally challenged. Things that should be settings aren't, and things that are usually duplicate others.

I'm hoping that Windows 8 is their trial and W9 ends up more polished. It has potential. Though - the whole "all apps" view is stupid beyond reckoning. I want my games in start, one way or another, and my two options are flood "All Apps" or flood my start screen, both of which are sort of abysmal.

Iactually hated windows 8 quite a bit too, if you havent installed the "point one" update, you should do it, it's actually useable now. Also, you can have it start immediately on the desktop after you log in with the .1 update. I just pin my few apps to my taskbar and use search for the other apps. Even without indexing on it usually finds them by the 2nd letter.

Technically on W8.1.1, sorry. At least I have options - The Dreamspark program via my University lets me get Windows OS for free, all the way back to Vista, if I wanted to. I figure I'll try it for a bit, but I'm just not sure at the moment :\

I think we're on the same page. Haha. I just think I'd give Linux a shot because I'm sick of being screwed over by MS. I've never tried Linux, but it can't really be that difficult, and I'm willing to learn...

If you get stuck, a good help site that caters to linux noobies is www.linuxquestions.org

They explain things in plain english without assuming you know it already or using linux terms unfamiliar to a noob.

Cheers mate. 🙂

You're the exception not the rule.

I ended up reinstalling Windows 7. Windows 8 on desktop is just not there yet, if only because I find its organizational capabilities hinder it greatly. I still think the start menu is the best paradigm out there at the moment, though from my experience with an SP2, I'll be the first to say W8 is very very nice on a touchscreen.
