LOL - I'm going to sue the company that makes my car because they didn't offer me an option of different radio brands - I am to stupid to realize that I can get a different one after I buy the car.

[citation][nom]Blazer1985[/nom]Yup, but we, as tom's hardware readers are no regular users. We are programmers - developers - power users at least... We can defend ourselves from almost every kind of monopoly. Regular users aren't probably aware that other Explorer alternatives exist. (Still doubtful about Microsoft's guilt)Beside that.. EU haters, don't worry about us taking your money with lawsuits, think about making wars for oil.[/citation]
Making a point about a stupid law does NOT mean hating on the whole organization... It's like hating a guy for the way he wears his hat.
Learn the differences.

Totally agree, I surely know the difference and I have my doubts about Microsoft's guilty too. Read the whole comments and you'll find out why I wrote those lines 🙂

[citation][nom]christop[/nom]I really don't see why this is a big deal. Apple uses safari and it is ok. I only use explorer to download chrome. People are not forced to use explorer as their main browser.[/citation]
The real reason is I drop Safari into the trash and delete it, it's gone. Unlike IE that is still embedded at the kernel level so the FEDS have their back doors. I bet the FEDS are going to pay the fine for MS too.

I never understood all this bullshit. The way I see it, it is Microsoft OS with Ms Office Suite and MS IE Browser.

If I recall Microsoft entered the browser wars late, Netscape was the best at the time, then you had AOL that sucked pretty much, AOL buys out Netscape and still sucked, meanwhile MS was evolving its IE browser. Yes it included it in its OS, BUT IT IS THEIR OWN OS!!!! Not Netscape, not Firefox, not Chrome. I find that the other browser companies are nothing but cry babies. Make your own damn OS and bundle it with your OWN Browser.

I am not American!! I'm Canadian, but I am sick and tired of all the American bashing of both Microsoft & Chevy Corvettes. They blow the competition away at a reasonable price.

I sometimes think MS should shop Windows WITHOUT the IE, and next thing you know the EU will cry like babies, saying but we can't update our windows we need IE in order to update, well too bad you can't have it both ways.

If Mozilla, and Google, want there Browser on MS OS systems, then they should pay Microsoft a royalty of $200 for every windows sold to have their browser included. Period

They should concentrate on Apple, selling overpriced outdated hardware, that forces its customers to spend more on Ram's, Hard drives, cables. Speaking of the so called great innovation Apple crap, Apple be bankrupt had it not been for Microsoft 350 million bailout and non voting stocks, and making a Office versions for Mac OS, to save Apple from bankruptcy.

I don't care if MS has the 90% of the PC world its their OS and they have the right to put what they want on it. You want your browser on MS OS then pay MS and shut up or build your own OS with your own browser in it.

Someone above said the European spent millions and millions in research to have another operating system, well where is that operating system? surely they must have had a Beta by now.

Linux? I doubt it, it would take months for non Linux users to try to make their printers work. (too complicated for the mass to even bother with it) So who do we have left? Apple? (Too expensive and limited considering most software companies make software or games to run on Windows only.

End of Rant

The EU has money, I would like to see them put more academic money into developing Linux, maybe they could also require PC makers to provide Linux drivers for their PCs sold in the EU, and the printer makers should also e required to provide Linux based drivers for their products! Everyone knows that, over the years M$ has used it's monopolistic powers to hender PC OEM from offering alternative OSs and browsers!
Linux just need more investment, and Gabe might be the spark that gets things going! All you M$ spinions and robber barrons can eat my shorts!

[citation][nom]martel80[/nom]For all those EU haters, don't forget that Tom's comes from Germany. If Microsoft wants to do business in EU (which they obviously do, otherwise they would simply abandon EU without paying any fine), it has to comply with whatever crap EU imposes. The choice is Microsoft's, no one is forcing MS to remain in the EU market.I'm not advocating EU regulations, but MS was given enough time to do something about the situation and they failed. That's why they have to pay the fine. Not because they ship IE in Windows.According to Wikipedia, EU's budget is "€864.3 billion for the period 2007–2013". The fine is like 0.05 per cent of it (or 0.4% of annual budget). What a grab! Edit: sorry, I fail at maths sometimes.[/citation]"I'm not advocating EU regulations." *Martel then procedes to advocate EU regulations and justify them based on the amount of the fine*

Nice one Martel. Hey Martel, do you have any idea how many Retail copies of Windows were sold that were missing the browser ballot? Just think... all those poor defenseless citizens who bought Retail copies of Windows and were forced to use IE under threat of death. Thankfully the EC stepped in and brought Microsoft under control. Crazy software company... trying to put their browser in their OS... without first offering competing browsers to the end user. What were they thinking? They should all be thrown in prison, we'll put the murderers and rapists and other such lesser offenders back on the streets to make room.

Apple dominates the tablet market, maybe they should go after them next? I'm thinking... a bajillion dollar fine or Steve Jobs Super Yacht, whichever costs more. That should help them line their pockets- I mean, protect the helpless citizens who were forced to buy iPads and suffer every time they use them.
