I also agree with the plan to skip Win8. In typical M$ fashion they will try all the new "styles and features" in their new OS (ME, Vista), then perfect it later with an apology and a new Win9. They are worse than gas companies with their raising and raising of the prices (70 cents a litre since I can remember {yes LITRE}), then dropping it 2 cents and saying "we realize the hardship and will graciously give a discount".

FOUR final words, or three. "OPEN-SOURCE", "LINUX", "FREE" and "FTW"

[citation][nom]Proxy711[/nom]Ya I'm confused as to why they thought coming out with a new OS so early would be a good idea.I was a die hard XP user until i saw just how good Win7 was(and how awful support for xp 64 pro was and how bad it ran after i upgraded ram). Until something ground breaking is released in a new OS i don't see any reason to upgrade to a new OS any time soon. DX12 included, unless it becomes the new dx9.[/citation]
it will be a very long time before dx11 will become main stream...most games are still coded for dx9 and ported to dx10

what is LINUX?....give some good quality games and will change the OS....wait....LINUX is not for games, just like how OS X was not built and will never be built for games

Anyone can build games on OpenGL, it's just unfortunate that most PC game developing and publishing companies don't, and if they do, it just doesn't seem to be compatible with Linux.

That was and is by design from MS and their proprietary Direct X. Back in the day when XP launched it came with a default screen saver of a floating Open GL symbol and MS supported Open GL. There were games emerging at brick and mortar stores for Linux. MS saw the writing on the wall and quickly shunned Open GL and pushed their DX crap. It worked and now DX is the crapbox 360 standard and PC game standard too.
That is starting to finally change with OS X now being supported more and the tablet/phone games, none of which us DX.

LINUX is and will always be a business platform...it will never be as popular as windows...no matter how many different builds they have or how many times it will be downloaded

August 2012 is a reasonable date for launching Win 8 when taking into consideration that it will be developed for both x86 and ARM platforms.
Hopefully it won’t be undercooked.

Just because no one is making games for linux doesn't mean it's incapable of running them or gamer unfriendly. In fact the games you can run on Wine almost always runs faster than in windows, games like wow, left for dead, half life 2, eve, starcraft 2,...

Interesting claim. Do you have data to support this? Linkage?

Bottom line Win8 is the biggest upgrade since 95. This should not be missed. Simple usable tile screen for the uneducated masses to easily access facebook and the like. While still having depth and muscle on the backside for the rest of us. And yes you still have a Win7 style desktop accessable via tile.
