Good question. This "article" reads like a press release written by Microsoft.

@alextheblue you can also share your information with Apple by using your favourite Mac OS or iOS device, as Apple is as big a data miner as Google. They just don't give a shizzle about your personal feelings so they'd never give you the option to disable anything.

Interesting. I added a comment using the phrase "domestic spying." It appeared for a few minutes. Refreshed the webpage, displaying all 27 comments; now it seems to have been removed.

So, if M$ is mining user data for profit...from a product they charged the user to acquire in most cases, not only is that double-dipping of sorts, but more so, when is M$ going to be sending out the quarterly royalty checks to those users whose data they have been profiting from?? This sounds like a wonderful case action opportunity if only a powerful firm would take this on for free pending a win. I know... dreaming. I am going down with the Win7 ship.

Install safer-networking Spybot Anti-Beacon which is a standalone tool that was designed to block and stop the various tracking (telemetry) issues present in Windows 10. It has since been modified to block similar tracking functionality in Windows 7, Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 operating systems.

I want the biggest security breach in history to happen just so microsoft is either put 6 feet under or they can never attempt telemetry again

make bing forward to google and tell me how that works out,
microsoft won't let you change anything they own.

I didn't pay 100+$ to use google, google wants to server me ads? so be it. they want a bit of telemetry? fine.
The moment I pay them even 1 cent is the moment I demand 100% privacy.

to be honest, probably.

China WAS pushing forward with building their own OS, presumably to help them spy on the populace and better control their access to information, but then Satya Nadella went to meet with them around the time Windows 10 was released, and suddenly China is all about adopting Windows. It really should concern everyone how excited China is about Windows 10. Huge red flag.

What other tyrannical governments will Microsoft be assisting to increase their bottom line?

There's a big, BIG difference. That's like saying "there's cameras installed on traffic lights- why not let them be installed in your bedroom?"

The OS should be off limits.

Holy Cow! What are you people doing to constitute such concerns? Really!
There are 10's of Millions of Windows 10 computers in operation and more going to it daily. There isn't an employee of Microsoft watching every little thing you do. If anything it's data mining in different demographic areas. It's not focused on whatever porn you are looking at. It's not grabbing your CC#'s. It's more focused on learning patterns in say, Cortana, to help the AI advance. Advertising Dollars focused more on what people are viewing and stop wasting money on what people aren't. What software has crashed with error reporting. etc. etc.

As an OS. 10 has yet to crash on me on any of my computers (10+), no matter what activity I'm doing. I 'may' download a movie from somewhere other than official downloads. I 'may' go to a naughty naughty site ;). I'm not worried that Bob from MS is giggling at what I'm looking at or calling up the FBI to say 'DyseMan is Downloading Moana!' (I didn't). My data is just added to the data mine. Worried? No. Do I use a VPN? yes. Do I have a legit MS email account that I actually use as the gateway to my Windows 10 login? No.

For people that want Tech Advances and such (like coming to Tom's Hardware to find the latest and greatest), God help you if your Android isn't at the Current Alphabet, you'll jump and buy the latest Samsung so you can be at the latest OS. I mean really, if Samsung S8 came with Gingerbread, you'd shit yourself crying about it.) But EVERY god damned time Windows launches a new OS, everybody just craps themselves to find a reason not to advance. This puts a fear into my customers, in which I have to soothe out. You don't think Androids Data Mine? Apple? Come on!

Can't believe half of you are even connected to the internet! HEY! Tom's just showed I was here and that I left a post. Hell, Tom's even keeps track of how many posts I've done! Holy Shit! It knew the last time I was on!!! Ban Tom's /slaps forehead. Hold on Tom's is good, Microsoft is Evil!!! But you just can't break away from it, and if you advanced beyond Windows 3.1 into the Internet ready Windows 95, you were just as prone then as you are today. Quit your bitching. Go to Apple... Oh wait, you can't do the things Windows can WITHOUT installing a Windows Shell! Go to Linux! Oh wait, your Game won't play on there. DirectX is watching you maaaaaan, right? No?

So Windows is Evil, because it's all the rage to say it is. Makes you cool to NOT have the latest greatest OS for your latest greatest hardware. Now you have to rely on hacks to keep your out of date OS alive. You people crack me up. Earth is Flat too, by the way. Bunch of r-tards. Peace Out.

Wow. You know what. We're allowed to have a problem with a company collecting our information. Little thing called freedom of speech. It's what also allows you to come on here and throw your little tantrum.

Like you, most of us really have nothing to hide. I don't care that somebody at MS or the FBI sees me typing this message. But you know what I am allowed to be a little ticked off when MS decides that what they are doing is ok. Economics has a word for doing this like this. It's called a monopoly. And honestly the people are starting to get a little tired of this.

Problem is most users do not understand what this means. Most users do not understand why they should be frustrated. As a result, no action gets taken. People don't mind being spied on if they don't know it exists or it is being used to better their lives, even if it violates a right we have. It's disturbing but we have seen it in action.

So the options left are someone make an OS like Windows and gain a market share. Now the problem with a monopoly is that it is virtually impossible to stop a monopoly like Microsoft has. There can be alternatives but Microsoft will always have domination over them. Because Microsoft owns the desktop OS market and nobody can or are willing to compete with them.
