If only AMD had a compelling x86 CPU/APU designed for tablets. We would then see good performing tablets at sane price points. I like Intel CPUs but when it comes to value AMD is generally the company to deliver. Hopefully AMD can make a trinity derived APU soon that is tailored for tablets.
 
i saw windows 8 on a weak ti processor and it was fast and smooth, so... as far as the price, the intel cpus are $250 ish anyway, so of course rt will be almost that much cheaper
 
It depends on the type of tablet phatboe. A Windows 8 tablet with a dual core Medfield will give you great battery life due to it's SOC low power design. AMD won't have anything SOC for a while I'm afraid. You would have to deal with E series designs which compared to Medfield aren't really that much faster in multiprocessing tests while not having near the battery life. Performance wise, AMD's solutions are WAY slower than a low power Intel i3/i5 Ivy design so they aren't comparable to that product either. Really, this is one space wher AMD just doesn't have a compelling solution at all. I know they are working on it, but they are very late to the table.

i think that would be kind of stupid. budget tablets arent about selling a few, its about selling a mass number of the chips. the profit margin isnt there to make it a viable market, but thats also not counting that amd doesn't have a workable solution if they do a die shrink.

does anyone know what intel chip they are useing, was it a special tablet version, or just a low end/efficiat laptop cpu?
 
The ARM-focused version of Windows 8 feels sluggish they claim, even more so when compared to Windows 8 Pro tablets running on Intel's hardware.

Windows RT is a half-baked product. It is may be just an x86 emulator that is why it is sluggish.
 
Ah Tom's doing what it does best : Windows bashing. From a business point of view it is clear that Microsoft partners are wary of Surface. Why : because it looks like a damn good machine, with good looks and presumably good performance. Something they have neglected to produce over the last five years.

From my point of view : let's see what Surface brings and what else OEMs come up with to compete and who knows : we might just be pleasantly surprised of the results of this move.

On another note, I'm still looking forward to Windows RT. Something fresh on the table won't hurt anybody.
 
MS knows it has to sell these like crazy otherwise its Playbook and Touchpad all over again.

The only way to get them in there is to sell low. Otherwise folks will just buy an iPad or the Nexus.

Not to mention the raft of other Android tablets that will be around come Xmas.

I reckon the Nexus really took the wind out of MS's plans a few months ago.

However, I fear the big issue will be many folks that should know better will jump on the RT only to say a few days later after they have used it "Damn I wish I'd paid the extra $300 for the Pro!"
 
i don't see any advantage in buying an RT tablet, its not x86 compatible, its going to be more expensive then an android tablet most likely be in the iPad range. I'm not that fussed about the incorporate office since there are so many free offerings for android for office apps that will do just fine for on the road use. And lets face it if WP is any indication software backing for RT won't be stellar, if truly a 199$ surface will be available it will be an interesting choice for a media consumtion devicer, but anything above that is just decreasing the appeal of a Surface. Oh and one more thing to consider about an M$ device would be : the short shelf life it will have, as soon as new one will be available M$ will make all the subtle FU's to you so you dump it and buy the new one.....

I don't know about that. MS has been pretty good at supporting older versions of hardware. I had a MK1 Zune and they were still bringing out new firmwares and features for it three models later. Not something Apple would do.

How can a tablet have a 'going' (for the purpose of being more expensive?) (unless, of course, you meant the word "it's" (the contraction of "it is", not the possessive form of 'it')), and, if (corrected) it was going to be more expensive, why would it then (be?) an android tablet? What would later make it be that? (unless, of course, you meant "than" (with an 'a') the word you use for introducing the second element in a comparison)
 
Tegra 3 is ARM 9 architecture .. it will be slower. Would have been better on A15 version of ARM.
Waiting for bench marks to come out before passing any judgement.
OEMs are just pissed, but MS couldn't rely on them as these guys would just produce a cheap , plastic version of a tablet and expect them to compete with Apple. MS was fed with it and couldn't see them going behind .. They took them head on and as a consumer Iam pleased.

So drop and basically blacklist one platform to allow the best platform to win? That makes no sense, you can't say let the best platform win and then also say to ignore one of them.

does being a being an ass hurt much ? i do hope it does 😀 but when you can speak 6 languages go criticize me, also English is not first language. And you said nothing that is even remotely tangent to this article, or what i have stated in my comment, just made a retarded rant about grammar. Don't worry about 'sympathy', I certainly don't. Name calling is always the refuge of the pointless. I get a good chuckle about people's campaign against writing correctly - when they are writing. The thing to remember is when your righting words, peephole will under stand there meaning if their are more write ones then wrong.

The ipods didn't get much love after they had been out a while. I don't remember them being upgraded with free games and other new features. Just a few bug fixes now and then.

MS looks after it's hardware. Better than the other manufacturers on the whole. Lenovo cant even get the right drivers for their kit on the support website! Six months waiting for them to put the right 64bit driver up for the Q180. Woeful.
