I have a google device, and the contacts don't sync correctly. Why would I want google messing with other companies' OS contact systems?

Really. Mr. Mehta, call your(Microsoft) legal department. They might explain to you that Google and MS are locked in patent war and most likely the license contract for EAS is about to expire. Don't act as clueless executive.... or wait I'm talking about Microsoft's executive, never mind.

My contacts sync seamlessly. You might have a configuration problem.

As per Google Sync page, Android does sync with your account in it's native form, no need for Google Sync there. It's the other devices (see the list on their page) that will be affected. Basically, Google is ensuring that Android users will keep their seamless experience, while other mobile users will have to upgrade to a premium account or use third party clients to do the job (for iOS, the contacts app, for WP, outlook).

I don't get it. What would be the stupid thing to do?
1. MS Executive to act surprised when he knows very well what is the main reason for Google's actions. If this is your point, I agree. Very stupid.
2. If you implying that MS stupid to ask for license royalty on their patents. Well I am on record against patents, so it stupid, but most people thinks that I'm the stupid one for been against patents.
3. If you implying that MS would be stupid to start their patent trolling of Android and Linux. I agree, they would be, but they did it anyway. So If you are Google and MS is suing you in attempt to drive you out of business, why would you pay for license on their patents and provide more power to them.

You are calling Google evil, but are they really that evil? They just made rational decision. MS wants money for EAS, Google will continue to oner exciting contracts, will allow you to use EAS and pay the fee, or if you don't need EAS you can use other protocol/method.
