[citation][nom]ejb222[/nom]Come one trollers. I see all the down votes but no compelling arguement as to why a faster OS is bad. Your absense of intellectual comments speaks to who you really are.[/citation]

You think people have an issue about faster boot times, but what they have an issue with is faster boot times don't mean anything on an operating system with an absolutely horrible and unsuitable user interface. You may think Metro is great, but there are many of us who don't, and faster boot times (or other W8 improvements) don't make up for it.

Now stop whining about downvoting.

[citation][nom]Caffeinecarl[/nom]Make it faster, but PLEASE, we do NOT want Metro!!![/citation]
Speak for yourself. I want Metro.

Actually its a smaller group of people that don't like Metro than those who do. And I'd like you to show me how Metro has failed on WP7? It has wona bunch of awards and you say it failed? You seriously have yet to show that you know what you are talking about. Why don't you give me some hard fact to back up any of you comments? The reality is you are no different than a MAc user who wants to argue that PCs suck with no reasoning behind it. If you don't like Metro thats fine...but don't confuse your personal opinion with fact. You may no like Metro, but that doesn't make it bad. You may not like Mercedes and prefer BMW, but that doesn't make Mercedes a bad car. So get over it.

[citation][nom]ejb222[/nom]And I'd like you to show me how Metro has failed on WP7?[/citation]

Uh, how about 2% market share after 16 months? I'm sure you'll have plenty of excuses for that, just as you'll have plenty of excuses when Surface and WP8 fail.

Then the only systems infected with Metro will be Xbox (whatever) and the PC (where it's completely unsuitable).

I hate to nit-pick, but I see a lot of "power" and "technical" users talking about more mouse clicks. If you are going to be really anal about it, you should use keyboard shortcuts because they are faster and more efficient. And yes - you should be able to do them with one hand.

Sorry about the tone, I mean, if you don't like Metro or the new Office - that's fine and you have every reason to. It's a taste thing at this point. However, trying to justify it because you have "moar clikz" or the learning curve takes time.

Switch to Office from Lotus and it will take you more clicks. Or you will spend more time with the different interface and say that it's inefficient.

I know it' TL😀R and a huge rant, but those metrics just seem silly in my opinion.

Yes they have a small market share. But it is 4%. Again you don't know what you are talking about. Secondly you apparently have never used W8 on a PC becuase it is not useless. I run it just fine. It runs better than W7 infact. Why don't you prove to me how it is useless?

[citation][nom]UCNetworkTech[/nom]Thats great, to show us how much faster it is than windows 7, wherein they removed hardware acceleration, so that when they put it back they could tell us how much faster their new unecessary OS will be. How bout telling us how much faster it is than XP.[/citation]
The only hardware acceleration removed after XP....was hardware accelerated sound via the DirectSound API. The UI itself was never "hardware accelerated" until Win7. Also, comparing any current OS to XP....is like comparing an i7 2600K to a Pentium2.....

They have no real reason other than taste to troll. Its pathetic. They come on this thread and act like they know better than everyone else. But if you read the comments, there is not one bit of evidence that supports anything they say. And once you call them out enough on it, they resort to childish retorts. Its like argueing with that guy who thinks that his Civic is faster than your Corvette, but he will never race you.

[citation][nom]ejb222[/nom]garbage[/citation]

You remind me of one of those nerdy twats in IT classes who always has to over-vocalize his opinion just because he feels like he has something to prove, when in reality no one gives a damn what he thinks and just want him to keep his mouth shut.

Protip: There are benefits and drawbacks about Win8 right now. I don't think any half-intelligent Tom's reader honestly thinks Win8 is all bad. There are legitimate ways to defend it that don't make you look like a twelve year old. This isn't one of them.

[citation][nom]killerclick[/nom]Never. Metro has to die and those in Microsoft who are pushing it need to get kicked to the curb.Microsoft is trying to stage a coup to rush everybody to Metro, where they decide which apps you can use and take a 30% cut from app sales. To do that, they have to kill the desktop as soon as possible, which is why they won't allow users to disable Metro and why they already started pulling support from some features in Windows 7 (desktop gadgets), with more to come in the following months. They don't mind losing desktop market share, because they see that Apple money and they would be fine with throwing even 50% desktop Windows users under the bus if they could retain those 20% diehard fanboys who are gushing about W8, WP8, Surface, etc.[/citation]
As long as Windows has backwards compatability then mandatory payment of 30% fee will never happen, people will just keep writing software for a classic desktop.

[citation][nom]back_by_demand[/nom]As long as Windows has backwards compatability then mandatory payment of 30% fee will never happen, people will just keep writing software for a classic desktop.[/citation]

And with software for the classic desktop costing 30% less, people will continue using that software on the classic desktop.

[citation][nom]anonymous_user[/nom]First I'd love to hear your definition of a "proper computer". Second there are people who dual-boot and thus reboot for that. Just because you prefer to use suspend doesn't invalidate other people's decision to reboot or shutdown.[/citation]
really now, i hate grab a thread like this but, u suck. i this day there has been very little need to dual boot. i mostly use W7. but love to tinker with W8, various Linux os and also mac osx. but now a days i just use Vbox, instead of dual booting. i have a phenom 2 x4 proc, and belive me, it needs 2 - 3 virtual os running in tandem to max out. so dual boot make no sense.
as for regular shutdowns. What the hell is that???? my Pc has been ON for last 12 days.(since it last rebooted for some update.) and thats usual. the only way my PC is down is if there is no power (rare) or i am going to be out of town for more then 3 days. and usually i dont put it in suspend to ram too. man there is always something or the other downloading, or the files on this PC are required by the home network(2 laptops and one smart tv, and 4 androids) so i cant possibly shut it down. i know that a NAS would be more economical, but who cares. ( i cant find a decent NAS below $300.) and thats what it cost me to build this current pc. 4 years ago (leaving out the HDD costs.). and it still runs better then anything i need.

[citation][nom]ejb222[/nom]So i get down voted on fact...super. Must be the same idiot from that horror movie who follows a trail of blood into the dark room with all the creepy noises. Instead of downvoting me, why don't you grow a set and actually refute my claims.[/citation]

Let's be honest with ourselves here: this is not a community with a neutral point of view on many things. If you go against the popular point of view, you'll get voted down, regardless of how rational or irrational the point (or the rebuttal) may be.

Proving the point that this site is now full of nothing but fanboys who have no clue...no different than the Apple fanboys you love to bash. but not only is it a problem in the comments, its a problem in the forums too. Someone asked if W8 was ok for games. So many people just bashed W8. But the reality is that games run better on W8. So not only are people idiots on comments like this, but they are now totally misinforming a community. That my friend is blatant douchebaggery.

I can`t believe my eyes, they said they made something faster in Win8 and you guys say you don`t need it ? Please stop posting already before you make yourself look like a retard no matter what`s your excuse for not needing faster boot ups. I wonder if they made it smaller like eating up 5 GB there would be surly some one saying he has 10 TB of storage and he doesn`t need a 5 GB OS , his computer never shuts down , he doesn`t need 10 seconds boot time, he doesn`t need energy saving stuff, he lieves near a nuclear power plant. Wtf , complain about negative things not positive ones you brainwashed goons.

[citation][nom]ejb222[/nom]But the reality is that games run better on W8. [/citation]

irrelevant if users are forced to use an UI that they don't want and that hurts their productivity. I tried W8 RP for a week and as far as I'm concerned, Metro is an inferior UI for desktop productivity. this wouldn't matter if Microsoft allowed users to boot to desktop and to disable Metro, but the reason they're not allowing this is the reason we should all be worried about the future of the PC

[citation][nom]ohim[/nom]I can`t believe my eyes, they said they made something faster in Win8 and you guys say you don`t need it ?[/citation]

we do want a faster OS, but not with Metro. if I have to choose between Windows 7 (an excellent OS) and Windows 8 (a bit faster but with Metro), I'll be using Windows 7 until 2020 and hope Microsoft will come to their senses or become irrelevant so I can switch to something else.

...and you're right. I don't agree with the people that bash Windows 8 for irrational reasons either, but that's what we deal with here on Tom's.

Sometimes we just have to accept what we can't change. It's a lot easier to change the mind of a person who's on the fence about something than it is to change the mind of a person who absolutely had their mind made up about something (even if their rationale is completely asinine). It's no better than, say, having an atheist go to a forum of Christians to convince them that there is no God or vice versa--a Christian preaching to a forum of atheists. The people on both sides have their minds made up and are WELL prepared for anyone that tries to sway them.

I mean, you're not going to go to, say, the Ku Klux Klan's website to get information about Black History, are you? Then tell people not to go to the Tom's comments section to get neutral information about Windows 8--you're not going to find it here.

Bottom line: Misinformation is everywhere. Make your own decision and we'll let the market speak for itself. If Windows 8 does flop hard, then it's Microsoft's fault for not knowing its audience well enough. If it does well, then the loud minority (if it's indeed a "minority") can do what they want from there.

People still whining about Metro?

You people need to realize that M$ doesn't only sell to us gamers. I know Metro is kind of a step down, but nobody said you have to upgrade to W8. Most of you just looked at a screenshot, never even testing it, and immediately dismissed it. Come on now, Microsoft will definitely allow you to put your games in the Games box or make another start screen box for it.

I'm going to get Win8 because Vista is just an assdrag when it comes to performance. 40 dollars for faster PC is a steal, and IDC about the UI at that.
