I got my MS Wireless Mouse 2000 (blue track) in Jan '13. The warranty expires in Jan '16 (3 year warranty). I've been using the device with Windows Vista, 8, 8.1 and now 10. Last night the mouse was working fine. Turned it on in the morning and the mouse pointer wouldn't move at all.

So I did some checks and these are what I observed.
1. The low battery LED, as usual came on green and then went off, indicating the batteries are fine.
2. The blue track light underneath was also on as usual.
3. The keyboard counterpart (MS Wireless Keyboard 2000) was working fine. I'm using it to type out this post.
4. The device manager showed both the keyboard and the mouse.

I tried the following:
1. Un-installed and re-installed the driver.
2. Un-installed and re-installed the Microsoft Mouse and Keyboard Center freshly downloaded from the microsoft website.
3. Tried plugging the receiver in all USB ports.
4. Tried plugging the receiver in a netbook.
5. Checked for metallic obstructions around the receiver.
6. Tried changing the batteries even though the LED didn't glow red (low battery warning).

Nothing worked. Then suddenly the mouse started working again. I hadn't done anything new for this to happen. Then the pointer movement became intermittent. And then once again it stopped moving. The mouse looks exactly the same as when it was working.

Has anybody faced such a problem? I was thinking of turning it in to the service center since it is still under warranty. Unless of course there is some way to sort the situation out myself. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks.

RMA direct to MS can't hurt. At the worst, you still have your currently intermittently working mouse. Best case, you get a whole new one.

Recently, I RMA'd a mouse back to Logitech. A bit of back and forth, and they sent me a new one. Without having to send the old one back.
I am using my six year old logitech wired mouse right now. Another example of planned obsolescence with the wireless one I guess. I'll go ahead for the RMA.

Thanks das and USAF.

I have to update on this issue. Today all of a sudden the mouse started working again. And has been working absolutely fine the whole day.

A little off topic: Microsoft customer care was pretty pathetic here. The customer care guys gave me a list of phone numbers which were supposedly "service centers". Some of those numbers belonged to random people. Just one number belonged to a store which sold MS products but was not a service center. The guy himself was surprised why MS customer care would give his number as a service center and was quite polite and apologetic about it. I later discovered that MS customer care gave me numbers which I could have easily found out myself by googling. I finally found a service center on my own through google. I called them and found out that they did take up RMAs under warranty. Unfortunately the store had absolutely awful reviews online that scared the heck out of me.

Back to topic: Now I'm in a real fix. To RMA or not? This is not really a question to the forum, although suggestions are welcome. Meanwhile, I guess I'll just wait it out a bit and see how the mouse fares.
