Minecraft lagging allot

i recently started playing minecraft on my new computer. i haven't played it in a year so i was exited to pick up where i left of. but its kinda laggy. i have to play on medium settings to get a reasonable frame rate which is jumping from 20 - 60. in the begging i tried to run the game at maximum settings since i got a Geforce 980 ind an intel i7 4790K. but the game was impossible to run at 5 - 9 frames per second. i just dont understand why a game like minecraft is so laggy on my hardware since i can max out games like GTA V, Battlefield 4 and Crysis. and my friend who has a R9 270 can easily max minecraft out with way over 60 fps.
So yeah please help solve my frame rate problem, and sorry if i had any spelling typos.

Minecraft requires 64-bit java to be installed in order for it to run properly at high settings ALONGSIDE with normal java, it is not to be replaced. It is possible to donwload java install file manually, you can go see for yourself now that I've told you what to look for!

What kind of lag are we talking about - stutter? Tearing? Generally low fps?
Are you using a particularly high-res texture pack maybe?

Right click minecraft icon and make the game run with the nvidia card, this game usually messes with GPU configs especially nvidia.
