I connected my Asus Laptop (https://www.cnet.com/products/asus-rog-g701vi-xs78k-17-3-core-i7-7820hk-64-gb-ram-512-gb-ssd-2x/specs/)

To this monitor (https://www.amazon.com/PG278QR-2560x1440-G-SYNC-Gaming-Monitor/dp/B01N4ENDXR/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1526336556&sr=8-1&keywords=165+hz+monitor)

Using a mini displayport to displayport cable similar to this (https://www.amazon.com/DisplayPort-Moread-Gold-Plated-Thunderbolt-Resolution/dp/B01N5RY8D7/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1526336648&sr=1-1-spons&keywords=mini+displayport+to+displayport+cable&psc=1) but by a different company called "Hay Cable" and it is made in China.

The screen turns black intermittently sometimes and it fails to display more than 85 hz, showing me "DisplayPort No Signal". I was wondering how can I fix this? I'm hoping to be able to use this cable to hook up my laptop to a 240hz monitor, would that work?

Solution
That means it is reverting to DP 1.1 bandwidth because the cable cannot handle enough for DP 1.2. You need to get a certified DisplayPort cable, not an off-brand one.
