Minimal Airflow, Need Icy Cold

Hello. Again, I have a question that may stump people..

I am on a budget and have seen the recommendations of many a person to build a "half computer" to work as a cooling agent for my two modems (Sadly I have TWC, so their stupid digital phone modem is taking up a lot of my space and time and many headaches solved with chocolate). However, I don't want to do that. Currently I have a mid-sized fan pointed to the modems, but due to it's age, the door for the "modem closet" must always be open, and can't always run.

I've talked to people on Amazon and they recommended the Thermaltake CL-N001-PL14BU-A MASSIVE 14 LAPTOP COOLER and said that the dual fans would help airflow and that their life is really good.

So take that price range (about $30 (USD) or less)... Is there any options that need no or very (VERY) minimal airflow to work to keep these things cool. I'm building my Victor PC for my YouTube channel and want to push the Internet to the max, while also keeping it hidden from view (thus the closet idea).

Please help. Thank you!

Thanks, but sadly, that doesn't really help. I would have to have custom doors made since the house is so old, and my grandfather would never dish out that kind of money.

You either have to keep the door open, or have some type of ventilation that allows the heat to escape from the closet (like the door). A modem can raise the temperatures in the closet close to 20-25 degrees F......electronic equipment are basically small heaters, and when placed in a small enclosed environment like a closet, they will have problems.

There are mounting holes on the side of my modem - I installed a couple of screws on my desk and have the modem hidden from view that way. It still gets a bit hot....

Is it a one story house. if it is to remove some of the heat you could vent through the roof. Its like what would be in a bathroom to vent steam and moisture out. Not sure if your grandfather would go for that either but it would remove some of the closet heat. It would also cost more than 30 bucks unless you can do it yourself.
something like ValueTest 50 CFM Wall/Ceiling Mount Exhaust Bath Fan this is like 14.99 from home depot but then you also have to add in the duct work and labor if you cant do it yourself.

It's four stories including basement and attic. The house is also about 100 years old and is nearly falling in on itself.

Stumped? hardly. A simple exercise in thermodynamics.

In a closet without any inlet/outlet, this is what you have to do

Case closed.

Awesome solution! Too bad it won't work! As I mentioned above, the house is too old and modding the doors or buying new would be too expensive.. Did no one read the fact that I want it under $30?

Okay.. Let me ask: What is your problem with me? All I want is a serious answer and no one will listen or give it to me. I'm made out of blood and flesh just like you and I have no quarrel with you.

How isn't it interesting? The possibility for a fanless cooling option without ventilation and the possibility of coming up with a new product..

That's not interesting? I'm sorry apparently we have different definitions of the word. So.. If there is anyone who would like to actually help me.. I'm leaving this post open and unsolved until I get a real solution.

Your problem is physics. You have a small enclosure (closet), with no ventilation, and a "heating element" (the modem) inside it. No amount of air movement within the close it actually going to cool the closet or the modem. You must vent the hot air, and bring in cooler air for this to work. Anything short of that would be to place the modem in another location.

So there is no way to hypothetically "liquid cool" it or work with non moving parts/fans at all?

not for 30 dollars I don't think there isfor a closet set up with no air flow or venting. there are some options but it would cost a lot more than 30 bucks.
Can you relocate the modems or not If you can you could move them to the basement its probably cooler there any way and if its not in use it would be a more open enviroment.
