Missing group policy editor

Archived from groups: microsoft.public.windowsxp.security_admin (More info?)

When I try to open local security policy or gpedit.msc I get the following
snap in failed to initialize.
Name:Group policy object editor
CLSID:{8fcob734-aoe1-11d1-a7d3-0000f87571e3}
funny thing is gpedit.msc was working the other day and now its not. So does
anyone know how to fix this. And no the kellys corner 230 does not fix it
please help

No it does not help for there seems to be no way for me to obtain the
required snap in for this. Its funny because it was there a week ago and ive
noticed since it was gone my security center does not recognize the fact that
I have an anti-virus program installed.
