I have XP Pro SP2 with latest Win updates. Two days ago all program icoms disappeared from my desktop (problem rectified as Desktop did a default auto cleanup without my knowledge). However when I go to the Start button, Programs menu, Program groups are listed, but most of the folders are empty, e.g. Games. A check of the C:\Programs folder shows that all the programs are still installed and appear to be intact.
I have checked out pc with HiJackThis, Trand Micro Internet Security 2005, Lavasoft Ad-aware, Spybot Search & Destroy, & Micorsoft Antispam and all have checked out OK
I have tried a System restore point, but that didn't work as did a restore installation of SP2.
Help!

Try going to C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\

The links should still be in there, you can copy and paste that Programs folder over to your profile, same location, put your username for All Users.

OR you can pull it from the above location but using Default User, which is just the profile template used when a new user is created on your computer.
