MOBO CD Connector

If one uses Microsoft Media Player, is there any reason to connect the CD audio connector to the MOBO? I hear no difference. Are there other players that require it? Thanks.

XP uses digital audio extraction from the CD-ROM by default (no analog cable needed). The CD-Audio connector was needed in the old days when CD-ROMs didn't do that task well, so for example Windows 98 uses the CD audio cable by default.
